Chapter 1
What Is Clearing?

Clearing is a structured method of asking guiding questions in such a way as to lead to the discovery of the root of problems, erasing the bad feelings connected with the problems, as well as discovering and changing a person's limiting beliefs.

In the course of working with the Clearing Techniques for over of 20 years, I have discovered that people live their lives unaware of the fact how much they are influenced by their past, traumatic experiences. These cause them a vast array of uncomfortable "mind stuff," such as emotions and feelings, as well as psycho-somatics. Often they are also unaware that they could get rid of these with a regression technique called Clearing, which ñ simply put ñ takes away the pain and sorrow from these past experiences and makes one feel like new. What can be addressed in a Clearing session? Basically anything that has been upsetting in some way, or causes problems in a person's life.

Here is a partial list:

  • Losses (separation divorce/death of a loved one)
  • Injuries, Accidents and Operations
  • Painful childbirth, Abandonment
  • Post Traumatic Stress Disorder
  • Uncontrollable urges and obsessions
  • Any condition that is 'psycho-somatic' (physical ailments, stemming from the mind)

Clearing is also very effective in:

  • Speeding up the time of recovery from an illness or injury.
  • Healing the rifts, or long term resentments between family members and/or friends.
  • Getting to the bottom of a whole range of potentially volatile emotions, such as anger, rage and jealousy.
  • Flushing out limiting beliefs and replacing them with more constructive ones.
  • Giving new insights on how one's life has been affected by the false ideas stored in the memory bank, and how to correct those ideas.

Clearing restores your power of choice, so that you no longer are constantly at the mercy of your subconscious impulses. It can handle any repressions, compulsions, unwanted attitudes sensations and fears, as well as any physical problem stemming from the mind.

In short: It can clean out the 'garbage' from your body/mind, and help you discover the real You, the 'unadulterated Self', the diamond in the rough.

How does Clearing work?

Although the procedures are fairly simple, one needs to read through the theory section of this manual in order to effectively work with the principles. One has to know what to look for, and where to find it. Then, using the guidelines in part II of this manual, start by applying the procedure on a ëwillingí guinea pig. I would recommend you try it out a few times first, so that later, when you are called upon to help someone in an emergency, you are already somewhat familiar with the procedure.

The general idea is to get people to tell you what it is that is troubling them. You then ask them to recount the incident several times, until they feel better about what happened.

This simple action, in itself, can be very therapeutic and can be done by anyone, whether trained in the Clearing techniques or not.

However, if you really want to make a difference to some one's life, you would do well to study the entire manual, and only when you feel you really understand what you are trying to achieve, start putting the techniques into practice, by simply following the instructions on what questions to ask, which are given in Book II of this Manual.

All it takes is a genuine desire to help ease someone else's pain, or emotional upset. What you have to do is find a quiet space where you won't be interrupted, sit the person down and tell them you are going to ask them some questions. You then get them to "Return to the time when..." (the upsetting incident happened), and use the suggested instructions to guide them through it. You will find they will be only too eager to tell you all about it. (There appears to be a great need for people to talk to someone who will listen to them without judging or telling them what to do about it.)

Some people may need a bit of coaxing to get them to tell you about the incident; just gently encourage them to continue, and before you know it they will be regressed to the incident. The grief they have suppressed will surface, and the tears will start to flow. This is a good sign; it means that the process is "biting" (like a gear that gets engaged). If you keep at it, having them re-count the incident several times, you will notice that gradually the tears will subside, the pain or ids-comfort will lessen, and eventually disappear altogether. Now is the time to ask him or her whether there was some decision made at the time, to make sure that this kind of thing (the upsetting incident) would never happen again.

Once the person finds this decision (which we call a ëPostulateí) you will be left with a very relieved and smiling friend! What is more, the uncomfortable feelings that resulted from that traumatic incident should never bother him or her again!

If you are the person receiving clearing, your mind will feel like the calm surface of an unruffled lake, or the mind of a child lying in the grass on a summer's day, watching the clouds drift by. The only thoughts coming in would be about those things that are happening now, or your dreams about the future. If there are any fears left, all you need to do is find out where they are coming from. With some Entity Clearing one can sort it out quite easily. You will recognize that this is not your reactive thinking, and clean up all other influences from your space. Then once again, your mind will feel as I have attempted to express on the poem below:

This is what attaining the State of Clear felt like to me, more than 20 years ago. I can assure you that the difference from one's previous mental state is so profound, you couldnít possibly miss it when it happens.

 

A Cleared Mind

A cleared mind is like a pristine lake,
Where all is serene and peaceful.
The only thoughts that filter to the surface
Are those of the moment that is happening
Right now!

And, when a disturbing thought appears -
As if from nowhere; just out of the blue,
The lake knows it is just a ripple of other people's thoughts
and worries;
All confused!

The clear lake let's them drift by
like the clouds reflected in the water
It doesn't concern itself too much,
Except to show compassion,
and then to return to the peace
Within!

Some samples of actual Clearing sessions

John, one of my colleagues, recently gave a session to a client, whom I will call Stuart. The client insisted that he could not remember his childhood, prior to the age of nine. The Clearing Practitioner (hereafter referred to as C.P.), asked him if something upsetting or traumatic happened around this time. "Yes," Stuart told him, "my father died!" John said, "OK, return to the time your father died, and tell me when you are there."

After running through the incident a couple of times, and to the pre-Clear's complete surprise, he began to remember bits and pieces of the incident. He recalled that he was very hurt and angry at his Dad, for leaving him so unexpectedly at such an early age. One of his older sisters tried to com-fort him, but he decided that it would be easier to forget all about him; in fact he decided to erase all memory of his Dad. What he didn't know was that the subconscious is very literal and granted his wish; not only did that decision wipe out all memory of his father, he "forgot" all of his child-hood memories as well.

The above is a good example of how the subconscious mind interprets this kind of decision, quite literally! In his later years, Stuart would get really angry, whenever a loved one threatened to leave. However, he never wanted to admit (even to himself) that he was angry. So, he would "stuff" his anger, which then would create havoc in his body, causing arthritis, and high blood pressure. Not only does his seemingly good solution now limit him severely; it now can cause a chronic illness or malignant disease. I am a firm believer in the dictum that: "All ëdisí-eases stem from a mind that is ill at ease!"

Now let us take a look at another example of how Clearing works:

Brenda's mother had passed away some months before Brenda came to see me. She couldn't seem to get over her loss and would get tears in her eyes every time her mother's name was mentioned. I asked her to return to the time her mother passed away and got the exact date and the duration of the incident, including the funeral. (The entire incident lasted four days.) Then I had her close her eyes and told her to focus on the be-ginning of that incident.

When she had done so, I instructed her to move through the incident to a time four days later. When she looked up, I asked her what happened. She then recounted the incident and when she was finished, I asked her if there was perhaps, an "earlier beginning to that incident." She said "Yes," and recalled how her mother had brought up the subject of her impending death about 6 months be-fore she died. This occurred the day she returned from the hospital, where she had been told that her cancer was malignant. She had expressed the wish to "let it be over quickly," and had initially resisted going in for treatment. Brenda, however, adamantly insisted that she should,

And convinced her eventually. In the session she realized that this was very selfish of her and that she had never considered what would be in the best interest of her mother.

Brenda felt overcome with guilt, and wished she could have told her mother how sorry she was to have caused her to suffer through painful chemotherapy sessions, knowing they would just postpone the inevitable outcome.

She also realized that she had known all along that her mother wouldn't make it. She decided, there and then, to tell her own children that she loved them and that, if she ever ended up in the same position as her Mom, to please not persuade her to do the same. In fact, she had a "living will" drawn up to prevent others from making decisions for her, if and when something should happen to her. After handling the loss, the pre-Clear was able to accept her loss, but still felt guilty about something. This I handled, by running her on an additional process. (See Book II; chapter on "Squirreling and Other Practices!"

In the next session we searched for (and found) the underlying cause of her obsession 'to hold onto people and things'. We found a traumatic incident in an earlier lifetime in which she, herself, had died of pneumonia after neglecting a bad cold. At the time she decided: "In the future I will do everything to prolong life." That is why she had pressured her mother into getting chemotherapy therapy, against her will. After the session, she felt much relieved and, when her father died about nine months later, she recovered much faster from the loss.

Another typical example of what Clearing sessions reveal is shown in the following case history. Joe, a client who flew in to see me from Australia told me that he had been allowed to attest to the Clear State at Saint Hill, England. However, he felt that he couldn't possibly be Clear, because he still felt very withdrawn towards people and also never recovered his sense of taste; he couldn't really tell differences in the taste of food. I took him in session, and before long noticed his extreme criticism of his father (long since deceased).

I regressed him to his childhood and we found to our amazement how much emotional charge had been suppressed regarding his Dad, who was a taciturn man who did not relate well with people. In short, he grew up in a poor family, where the father "ruled with an iron fist!" His Dad insisted that he should be served first and that he deserved to eat such things as steak, or other expensive types of food, while the children looked on and were given left-overs, gruel or other unsavory tasting tidbits. In the sessions that followed he expressed his disgust at the selfish attitudes of his father, but as the father was also the winning valence (that is the person in who seems to be in control), Joe had adopted his stoic demeanor as a way to succeed in life.

Another thing his father did, which was extremely upsetting to Joe was that he took Joe's favorite possession (a pen knife) away from him, and never gave it back. When I asked Joe what he would have liked to have said to his father, he expressed his anger by yelling: "If I ever find that knife, I'll carve on his coffin: Here lies the bastard who took away the only possession I had in the world! May he burn in hell, forever!"

Once Joe had a chance to rid himself of all the charge regarding his father that he had been denying for years (you are supposed to love your parents, aren't you?), he felt a great sense of relief. Joe told me that he felt like a tadpole, living in a pond all of his life, but now his space had expanded to where he felt like a big fish in an ocean! He also lost any and all resentment towards his father.

An interesting fact about Clearing is that after the session, the person still remembers the painful experience, but without the pain that is usually associated with it. In other words, once he or she knows what really happened, he or she is able to accept it. In the case of the loss of a loved one, the person often finds some deeper meaning that changes their attitude towards the deceased, or towards their loved ones, still living.

 

 


 

 

Chapter 2
The Magic of the Mind

The mind is without a doubt the most ingenious invention ever made and short of using mind-altering drugs, electric shock, or surgery, it would take a lot of doing to damage it permanently. The mind is used by the Being (the Spirit) to operate a body in the physical universe. One of the mind's most important functions is memory.

If we were to compare the mind with a computer, the memory capacity of the computer pales in comparison with the ability of the mind. Stored information (in the form of mental pictures - including all the perceptions that go with them) directs the body and its functions. As an example, every time you reach for an object, you utilize earlier information that you programmed into your mind as a child. The mind records these mental pictures at the equivalent of twenty to twenty-five pictures per second, just like a motion-picture camera. These pictures give a complete record of a person's existence and are filed by time, location and event.

Today's advancements in computer technology have no doubt surpassed the brain in many ways, but it would be interesting to discover how much 'RAM' would be used up in order to record the memories of a life time (or even life-times). Lawrence West, a fellow Clearing Practitioner, who wrote a wonderful book called "Understanding Life," claims that more than 3 billion bits of data are recorded in the mental pictures of just three months of living. One may wonder how all that information could possibly fit into the brain.

Well, the secret has now been revealed. According to Michael Talbot in his enlightening book, "The Holographic Universe" (Chapter 1, pages. 17 - 21), "our memories are stored in holograms." To recall a part of that memory bank, all we have to do is focus our attention on it. It is now being suggested that our ability to remember something is analogous to shining a laser beam on a piece of film, and calling up a particular image.

Fortunately, it isn't necessary to understand the structure of the brain to work with the Clearing procedures and to get results. All we need to be concerned about is how the mind functions.

In its optimum state, it is able to analyze and correct its input. L. Ron Hubbard calls this part of the mind the 'Analytical Mind' (see D.M.S.M.H., Book 2, Chapter 1).

As mentioned earlier, the mind is made up of mental image pictures. According to Lawrence West in his book "Understanding Life," we use these mental pictures in three distinct ways:

1. To store memories and data;
2. To control the body and it functions; and
3. To compute or figure out answers to problems.

The brain is not the mind, nor does it store any great quantity of information as the mind does. Now, you may well ask, if the mind is not the brain or in the brain, then where is the mind?

The storage banks of the mind exist in holographic form entirely outside the physical universe in the non-material realms of existence (also called the non-local mind). The non-material universe has no physical space, no time and no physical matter. It exists, but is not physical or material in nature. This is, per-haps, the best explanation we have so far for the immense storage capacity of the mind.

Try the following experiment the next time you want to recall something. Put in a request for the information you desire by holding the idea: "I need and want the following information........." Hold this thought in your conscious awareness for a few seconds; then let go of it and proceed with some other activity. Later, the in-formation that you requested will suddenly appear, as if by magic! (Thanks, Larry, for this neat little process!).

Once you sort out your relationship to your body, your mind and your brain, you can use these tools. Your mind can be used in much the same way as you use a computer. When you begin to see your mind as something separate from you, and use it, the mind becomes a powerful instrument. After all, a home computer may store a few hundred megabytes of information, while your mind is virtually unlimited, and totally portable! If we would compare the mind with the software and the brain as the hardware, we would have a workable method of dealing with the problems of any aberration that crops up.

In the next chapters we will examine the source that is waiting in the wings to cause us trouble, and the trigger mechanism that sets off the trouble, when we least expect it.

It appears that the Analytical Mind is the finest piece of software yet in-vented. Until I had received Clearing myself, I was often dejected to find that I really couldn't control my thoughts (which were often negative). Although I had a pretty high IQ, my memory was not so clear. But, what was worse the past kept coming back to haunt me; the present was often difficult to confront; and the future looked very uncertain. Since I received Clearing my mind feels like a tranquil lake (most of the time). If I were living all by myself on an island, where I wouldn't have to concern myself with others, I could in all honesty describe my mental state as is portrayed in the following poem, by Edward Dyer:

My mind to me a Kingdom is
Such present joys therein I find,
That it excels all other bliss
That earth affords or grows by kind:
Though much I want,
which most would have,
Yet still my mind forbids to crave.

 


 

A Potential Trouble Source

In the hidden recesses of our mind hides the cause for most of our troubles in life. L. Ron Hub-bard calls it the 'Reactive Mind' (DMSMH, Book 2, Chapter II), but it's generally referred to as the subconscious or unconscious mind. This is the mind that made Socrates believe he had a 'demon' on his head that gave him answers! It appears that whatever is impressed upon it, will sooner or later be expressed. It accepts with unreasoning docility anything it is told, and what is more, it never sleeps! In moments of pain and unconsciousness, this part of the mind records verbatim what is being said, with all of the sense perceptions that go with the experience.


The fact that it is also very literal, i.e., it will just copy the words without them being analyzed, could lead to major confusion. For example let us take the case of the man who is being operated on, and while under anesthetic hears the surgeon say: "One thing is for certain, I will never again trust a redhead." The patient, of course, didn't hear the beginning of the story, the surgeon told his colleague about his relationship with Jane, a beautiful redhead who cheated on him.

However, the patient now has that piece of data stored in his subconscious where it will lie dormant until, after having a couple of drinks at the party, which lower his awareness, he is introduced to a woman with red hair. Suddenly, he finds himself getting panicky and slightly nauseous (the feeling he had during the anesthetic). He excuses himself, saying he has a stomach ache, and leaves. As soon as he's outside, he breathes a sigh of relief and notices his stomach feels a lot better now.

Not only does this (reactive) part of the mind tend to record exactly what was being said, it also registers any and all other perceptions, that were present at the time. Research has shown that it even records in the pre-verbal stages of life. It al-ready starts recording while the baby is still in the womb. The analytical mind is constantly recording, except in moments of pain and unconsciousness, when it shuts down and the reactive mind takes over. It's like it has a self protecting mechanism that blows the fuse, when something happens it can't cope with, rather than damaging the soft ware in the analytical mind. If that should happen - the person is suddenly confronted with all the misery, losses and traumatic experiences of an entire life time insanity results. Now all you can do with him is put him in a mental institution where he's "kept quiet" with drugs.

So, what does this mind do? According to L. Ron Hubbard, and from the evidence I, and many other Clearing Practitioners have amassed, it causes anything and everything that can be found on any list of mental ills: psychoses, neuroses, compulsions, repressions and any kind of phobia, from anxiety to full-blown terror. (D.M.S.M.H., Book 2, Chapter II). What can it do? It can give a person arthritis, cancer, asthma, allergies, sinusitis, coronary trouble and high blood pressure.

It can trigger a whole range of illnesses (called psycho-somatics) that have hypochondriacs and worried mothers alike running to the doctor's, at the first sign of trouble. Not to mention a host of other reactions, such as feeling stressed out, enraged, having the impulse to kill, maim, steal or rape; on short: any and all forms of permanent or temporary insanity!

Now, what would one wonder, is the function of this 'reactive mind'? It was de-signed as the fuse box for our brains, so as to protect the delicate instrument which Hubbard calls the 'analyzer'. In moments of severe pain (physical or mental) the analytical mind shuts off automatically, to avoid overloading the system. (DMSMH, Book 2, Chapter II).

If you had a computer, wouldn't you want to build in a circuit breaker to prevent a power outage from wiping out your memory? The only difference being that once your circuit breaker clicks in, there isn't some invisible part in that same computer that still keeps on recording. But, that's exactly what happens in our minds.

It is not my intention to write a thesis on the workings of the sub- or unconscious mind. If you want the whole story I would advise you to read Chapter 2 (Book II) of "Dianetics, The Modern Science of Mental Health." The whole purpose of Clearing would be to get a person to remember what happened during the 'blackout periods', so he or she can make sense of the incidents and correct the false data that were impressed upon him/her at the time.

I, personally, can't guarantee that one could clear someone who was truly insane. I am not saying it isn't possible, but it would take a lot more patience and hours than I could possibly devote to any one case. However, I agree with Lawrence West in his book 'Understanding Life' that years of experience have proven the following statements to be true:

    1.The mind records continuously, consciously or subconsciously, during a per-son's entire lifetime;

    2. All recordings, (even the subconscious ones) are available.

    3. Recordings apparently made prior to this lifetime are also available.

    4. All unwanted attitudes, disturbing emotions, unpleasant sensations and psycho-somatics stem from mental pictures created during moments when the analytical awareness of the conscious mind was shut down.

    5. These moments of unconsciousness can be re-experienced and the negative, harmful energy contained in them will simply vanish or dissipate. As a result, the person is returned to complete physical and mental well being.

In general, this can be done with the use of the Clearing procedures without the need for hypnosis. Only in those cases where the person has an extensive drug history, has hypnosis proved a useful tool. Even then, the hypnosis used is so light that the person could come out of it at any time. In his book: "Realizing Your Dreams", Mark Jones, a very experienced Clearing Practitioner, shares a technique that I have found to be very effective on such people. (See Appendix)

How do we know that the above data about the 'reactive mind' is true? Every Clearing Practitioner will tell you that their pre-Clears will remember what happened in those moments of pain and unconsciousness, and will be able to retrieve the limiting beliefs that were installed as a result. Furthermore, their psycho-somatics will eventually disappear like clouds before the sun. Of course, the best way to discover this to be true for you is to try it out, and experience it for yourself! It would do no harm to give ourselves a regular "mental check-up, as well as a physical! You know the old song that goes "Pack up your troubles in your old kit bag and smile, smile, smile"? But, do you really want to carry them around with you? I'd say: inspect that old kit bag and get rid of those troubles! Then you will have something to smile about!

However, before we take a look at some of these troubles and where they originate from, let me give you some ideas on how trauma is imprinted on the body cells, and how Clearing the Body/Mind can greatly improve your general health and well-being.

 

 


 

 

Chapter 3
Body/Mind and Trauma

The latest research shows that: 'the body has a mind of its own', and that even the cells of the body can "think," and remember painful incidents. As I was re-reading Book 2, Chapter III of "Dianetics, The Modern Science" I came upon a statement made by L. Ron Hubbard, (page 70) which reads as follows:

"The cell is one of the basic building blocks of the body. Cells, the better to survive, seem to have some colonies which, in turn, had as their primary interest, survival. And the colonies developed or recruited into aggregations which in turn were organisms, also with the sole purpose of survival. And the organisms developed minds to coordinate the muscles and resolve the problems of survival. Again, this is still theory, and even if it was the track of reasoning which led to-wards Dianetics, it can be completely wrong."

Over the past few years, I have done a lot of research into the intelligence of the body/mind and I would like to share some amazing findings with you. I came across the phrase "body/mind" in a won-derful book by Deepak Chopra, MD. : "Quantum Healing - Exploring the Frontiers of Mind / Body Medicine." He, in turn, borrowed it from Dr. Candace Pert, director of the brain biochemistry division at the National Institute for Mental Health. Deepak Chopra goes on to say that:

"A body that can 'think' is far different from the one medicine now treats. For one thing it knows what is happening to it, not just through the brain, but everywhere there is a receptor for messenger molecules, which means on every cell!" (Emphasis mine!)

Dr. Chopra gives us interesting examples of how the body and the mind influence each other, and should be treated 'holistically', rather than as separate parts of us. Of course, the same premise is promulgated in Chinese healing methods. Recently, I have also noticed this idea breaking ground in the field of more conventional medicine. (Many doctors now recommend alternative healing remedies!) Dr. Pert claims that: "Emotions are the key to health." In fact she and her colleague Michael Ruff discovered that Peptide T (one of the messenger molecules in the body that converts emotions into biological happenings), can alleviate AIDS symptoms, halt the spread of the HIV virus and, in certain cases, even neutralize its toxicity.

In her article Dr. Pert also states that "the same chemicals that control moods, also control tissue integrity of the body." Apparently, these messenger molecules which govern emotion are strategically located throughout the body. She theorizes that this would prove that we have brain chemicals all over the body! It appears that one of these molecules, CCK, forms a lining from the esophagus to the intestines and Pert feels that "this may explain why some people talk about gut feelings."

According to Murdo Macdonald-Bayne, in his book: "Spiritual and Mental Healing" the cell life of our body has an Intelligence, an instinctive principle that has behind it billions upon billions of years of experience. This experience has been built up over millions and millions of years through the cell life, until now the human body is the highest expression of that cell life. According to Hubbard, Murdo gave a lecture to that effect in 1945.

Mr. Hubbard, himself, appears to have been aware of this fact, way back in 1950, judging by the last paragraph of D.M.S.M.H. On page 70 he states:

"In Dianetics, on the level of laboratory observation, we discover much to our aston-ishment that cells are evidently sentient in some currently inexplicable way."

Then, on page 71 he goes on to introduce the concept of how the cells 'remember' painful events: "The cells as thought units evidently have an influence, as cells, upon the body as a thought unit and an organism. The cells evidently retain engrams of painful events. After all, they are the things that get injured."

In the Glossary of DMSMH, L. Ron Hubbard defines the engram as: "Any moment of greater or lesser 'unconsciousness' on the part of the analytical mind which permits the reactive mind (subconscious) to record; the total content of that moment with all perceptics."

In the Concise English Dictionary the word is defined as: "a memory trace, supposed permanent change in brain accounting for existence of memory." In Talbot's Holographic Universe, (Ch.1), the definition of an engram is also 'a memory trace'.

In simple words, the engram is the supposedly permanent imprint on a cell. It is the cell's way of remembering the painful experience of injuries and pain. And, when something triggers that memory, the whole engram 'kicks in', together with the physical and emotional reactions that were encapsulated in that memory. However, in Hubbard's view, we only speak of an engram when physical pain and a greater or lesser degree of unconsciousness is present. I have found that: "any traumatic incident, as well as traumatic events that happen during a prolonged stressful period, can have the same consequences for a person's well being as an engram. (Of course, one should always allow for a proper engram to be present earlier in the person's case!)

I am convinced that to the body, stress feels like pain; it certainly exerts pressure on the organ-ism. I suppose that this is so, because during extreme stress, the analyzer also shuts off - fully or partially - which would make a person more susceptible to being indoctrinated with limiting beliefs.

Of course, as always: 'the proof of the pudding is in the eating'! In my experience with the Clearing techniques I have found that, although the client does not feel they were to any (normal) degree unconscious, they still suffered from the same manifestations as described in Hubbard's book.

For example: I had a pre-Clear, whom I shall call Robert, who, in his childhood, was never physically abused. However, his environment was such that he could not bear to be around his obnoxious grandmother who would 'flagellate' him with words. She would constantly bombard him with instructions on what was and was not ac-ceptable. Over and over, she would badger him with her limiting beliefs about life and the fate of the Jewish people. It got so bad, that Robert ensconced himself in his room, only emerging for meals. While shut off from society (he didn't have any friends), he rummaged around in his mind to try and sort it all out, but instead got more and more confused.

To make a long, sad, story short, the amount of stress this caused in his teenage years became a huge hindrance to his ability to relate to others, especially women, in his later years. You would be amazed at the number of limiting beliefs, especially regarding his appearance and Jewish background, we uncovered during his sessions, using the Clearing techniques as if we were dealing with a proper engram. I am happy to say it turned his life around. The last time I saw him was at a wed-ding, where he was one of the most gregarious people around! Now, of course, time will tell whether or not we actually got to the basic on the chain! However, he was so happy, all he wanted to do was to go out and enjoy life!

But, we are digressing from the subject of this Chapter, i.e.: the body/mind intelligence. Further research will undoubtedly throw more light on this intricate connection between mind and body.

For the purpose of this book, however, I feel it is not really necessary to understand structure. I agree with Mr. Hubbard that: "function precedes structure" (DMSMH, Book 2, Chapter 3). For our purposes all we need to know right now is that the engram is the villain in the piece! This villain can come like a 'thief in the night' and rob you of your sanity.

Here are some of the things it can do, or bring about:

  • It will control a person's behavior when some facet from the original traumatic incident stirs it up.
  • It can dictate beliefs and behavior patterns.
  • It can trigger all kinds of psychosomatics and diseases.
  • It can cause a person to fly into a rage, or flee in terror.
  • It can make a person insecure, and kill some one in a fit of jealousy.
  • It is always irrational; so irrational, that the conscious mind has to bend over backwards to justify this irrational thinking or behavior.

In fact, it can kick in so hard, that the person begins to feel uneasy about who he is and will take on the mannerisms and behavior of a role model. Hubbard calls this "a valence." (An example of this is given in the article, called Some Samples of Actual Clearing Sessions, earlier in this Manual.) While in that other person's identity, they will dramatize, i.e. act like the father in every way. However, we'll look at this later. First, let us examine the "psycho-somatic." In the next Chapter we will discuss this phenomena in more detail. In the book, "Emanuel" (Illness and Healing - p. 159), this is what Emanuel has to say about illness in relation to the body and where it originates:

Illness exists first in the non-physical realm
of spiritual need emotional confusion.
It is never primarily physical.
The body is the reactor; it vibrates to stress
and is an outward manifestation of inner turmoil.

 



 

Origins of Psycho-Somatics

The word psychosomatic has been around for a very long time, at least since the Greek philosophers. Yet, although it is now known that about 90% of all illnesses are psychosomatic, it is still not exactly a household word.

On page 91 of DMSMH, L. Ron Hubbard claims that: "All illnesses, apart from those caused by germs, are psychosomatic." He extrapolates on that premise by stating that "even germs would be included if one considers that you have to be predisposed to catch them in the first place." It is now known that we carry a lot of germs around in our bodies at all times. It's the immune system's job to keep them under control. So why is it that some people catch a cold at the drop of a hat, while others appear to never get colds?

Hubbard divides the subject of pathology into the following three categories:

1) Predisposition
2) Precipitation
3) Perpetuation.

The first one is not too difficult to grasp. A 'New Age' person may call it 'Karma', and a medical doctor would say it's genetic. Hubbard claims that: "The body is predisposed to the conduct and conditions contained in the engram, when that engram is first received" (p. 93).

I really don't know enough about pathology to give you an expert opinion. However, I do know that actual experience shows that the first possibility, i.e.: Karma can be adequately explained with Hubbard's theory. Why is that?

In the first place I truly believe that Karma exists; we tend to create those circumstances in this lifetime to learn those lessons we failed to learn in previous ones. (In a later chapter on Past Lives I will extrapolate on this idea!) While writing the book on Dianetics, Hubbard already knew about the existence of Past Lives. However, that idea was so sacrilegious at the time, that his associates talked him out of mentioning it.

Here is what he has to say in a technical bulletin, called: PTS Rundown (9 Dec. 1971):

"This is similar to the past life theory in 1950. Some people thinking this was "unpopular" frowned on it. Some others were only famous people so flagrantly that past lives was easily invalidated. But people, who don't go past track in Dianetics, don't recover. Even running them as imaginary incident (i.e., what could have happened to explain one's current problem), suddenly breaks through the stalled Dianetics case."

Within the frame work of Dianetics, many "inherited disabilities" are considered to stem from en-grams still left over from a previous life and get triggered in this life time, when certain things happen that have something in common with the past life incident that caused it.

The second stage in an illness, Precipitation, is defined by Hubbard as: "the factors, which cause the illness to manifest itself." The only definition I could find, that comes close to this definition, is 'to hasten the occurrence of'. (Oxford Concise Dictionary.)

Whatever the causes may be for a person to be predisposed to an illness, thousands of Clearing sessions have shown that: "An illness will not manifest, until the factor that caused it, i.e. the engram, gets 'keyed in', i.e., when it triggers the memory of a traumatic incident!"

Of course one should keep in mind that this only happens when the per-son is already in a lowered emotional state, or when his defenses are down (lack of sleep, exhaustion, being stressed, or having a chemical imbalance).

To find out more about this mechanism I want to refer you to the article later in this Chapter, that is called: "Setting off the Emotional Trigger." In brief, the more engrams a person has accumulated, the higher the chances that he will be predisposed to all kinds of illnesses, the quicker he or she will catch something, and the longer he will take to recover.

The last stage: 'Perpetuation' (according to Mr. Hubbard in the above mentioned Chapter of Dianetics, The Modern Science), is defined as: The factors that cause an illness to continue." Have you ever asked your-self why it is that some people recover very quickly from, say the flu, while others take weeks to recover? Obviously, this has something to do with the immune system!

But, now the question arises of why the immune system fails to do its job properly? I would not be as presumptuous to suggest that one should stop taking antibiotics - or any other medicine that will speed recovery. However, it has been proven over and over again, that a Dianetic session will always help speed up the healing process. The only times when - at first - even Dianetics won't work, would be when a person has a vested interest in staying sick. (If you want to learn more about this subject, I recommend you to read a very good book by Carolyn Myss, called: "Why People donít Heal and How they Can".) Once you discover what that is - and eradicate it - the illness doesn't stand a chance of lasting any longer than necessary for it to run its course.

It is not my intention to write a treatise on psychosomatic illnesses. I am not a medical doctor, so I don't feel qualified to judge. I highly recommend the book: "Quantum Healing," by Deepak Chopra and the one written by Louis Hay: "You can Heal your Body." I only wanted to convey to you an idea of what we are dealing with from the Dianetic point of view.

In Chapter 6, we shall take a look at how our emotional state can predispose us to illness and lower our resistance to disease. The following pearl of wisdom, which can be found in Emanuel's Book, expresses quite eloquently what trauma can do to our bodies:

As the body constricts
under the onslaught of trauma,
there is a denial of energy
to a particular part of the body.
Thus the stage is set
for a physical manifestation
which is, in your reality,
a malfunction of the body.

 


 

Traumatic Concepts at Conception?

In the early fifties when the book, Dianetics, The Modern Science of Mental Health was first published, many people considered Hubbardís idea that "Even in the embryonic stage of its development a baby would be susceptible to receiving engrams," quite preposterous. According to Hubbard, this theory was first developed after some hit and misses with narco-synthesis, otherwise known as hypnotism, with the use of a drug called sodium pentothal, (DMSMH, Book 2, Chapter 7.)

Apparently this method got through to the basic personality of the person and it appeared that this cluster of attention units had full recall of everything perceived or thought in a lifetime, minute by minute. Once the patient had been assisted to 'return' to the earliest memories, and had established a vague contact with an incident, the client would then be given the drug when back in present time, after which the incident could be contacted quite easily.

It also appeared that an early period of 'unconsciousness' would easily lift to show the underlying traumatic incident. As a result Ron Hubbard created the following Dianetic axiom: The earlier the period of 'unconsciousness' the more likely it is to lift." (DMSMH, p. 125) You may have noticed that every time Hubbard uses the word ëunconsciousness', it is paraphrased. This is because of the datum that the subconscious mind never sleeps. In fact this portion of the mind is the only part that is fully conscious and re-cording everything that's being said, sensed or felt. According to Hubbard (DMSMH, p. 128) research discovered these prenatal engrams to be most easily reached when they contained a great deal of pain.

On page 128, he further states that: "Cells, not the individual, are evidenced to record pain. And the reactive mind is composed only of cells." Mr. Hubbard states that "the engram is not a memory; it is a cellular trace of recordings impinged deeply into the very structure of the body itself." My research shows that this must be so, because my clients invariable remember what happened to them - not only while a growing baby in the womb, but as early as conception. However, over the past few years, more and more evidence points to the fact that 'not the cells themselves, but the consciousness within the cells, does the recording!'

However, here again we are getting into a question of structure; suffice it to say that Hubbard's theory works when put into practice. Hubbard sums it up by stating: "At first it was shown that the cells of the fetus record. No sooner did the researchers recover from that shock, than they found that even the cells in the embryo record. This discovery was followed by the realization that memory went back as far as the zygote - which means to conception!"

In other words, memories of incidents begin to accumulate as early as conception! ! !

Of course, one has to realize that these recordings are only registered in some sort of concept, encapsulated in a 'sound wave', rather than in words. It is not until the brain is fully developed (around 8 years of age) that they are fully available for Dianetic regression. In my 20-year practice with this technique the fact that these early memories are recorded has been proven conclusively.

I have even had a client who while in her mother's womb, remembered her mother singing the following nursery rhyme to her older sister:

Rock-a-bye baby in the tree top
When the wind blows
     the cradle will rock
When the bough breaks
     the cradle will fall;
Down will come baby,
     cradle and all!

This in itself was quite a feat, but what was even more amazing was that the traumatic incident that preceded this song had, in fact, happened to her sister, when she was a baby. Her mother took her sister on her lap and soothed her pain by singing this song. Later, in life, when my client became anxious, she would always sing this song, to calm herself down - and so would her sister! I managed to verify this incident by asking the mother about it, and it happened just as she had told me.

So what is it that incidents like this tend to prove? It appears that, even as early as being in its mother's womb, the child can record what is happening in its surroundings! As L. Ron Hubbard pointed out on 1950: "It appears that the cells record what is happening outside the womb, in some currently inexplicable way."

Even more recent research has proven this to be quite factual. For instance, it is a well-known fact that during hypnotic regression (a method of having a person regress to their childhood), clients will give the hypnotist an almost verbatim report of what was being said. Well, the same information can be extracted from the prenatal period, as far back as when the sperm is swimming up the channel, to connect up with the fertile egg. Clearing Practitioners have discovered that many of their clients have had memories of this phase in their body's development. The opening scenes in the movie: "Look, Who's Talking" give a pretty realistic rendition of what happens in real life.

To summarize: It appears that the intelligence (consciousness) in the cells has a way of recording everything that happens, even if these events take place outside the womb. This, of course, applies to pleasure moments as well as traumatic experiences. It is only the latter that will cause trouble, later in life. It is, indeed, remarkable that these memories can be retrieved with the Clearing Techniques.

If we stop to think of the implications of this, I am sure that we would tend to be more careful of what we say or do around a pregnant woman. And, because it is hard to tell in the early stages of a pregnancy that a woman has indeed conceived, we would do well to mark our words and actions around any woman of childbearing age. So, you would do well to remember that: "the baby may be listening!"

 

 


 

 

What Is Aberration? - Is it contagious?

In this Chapter, we are going to take a look at the question of contagion; in other words if it would it be possible to "catch" a certain aberrative behavior from an-other. In Book 2, Chapter VIII, of his Dianetics book, L. Ron Hubbard claims that there is only a small percentage of insanity that can be inherited from the parents, and then it would have to involve a situation where actual parts of the brain were missing. The manifestations of such would be a mental dullness or inability to co- ordinate. Also, a traumatic incident happening to a parent would not be considered contagious in the ordinary sense of the word. The usual definition of aberration isí a departure from the normal or typical'.

Hubbard's definition states: 'A departure from rational thought or behavior' (Dianetics, The Modern Science of Mental Health, p. 421). Both my research and extensive experience have shown that: "It is rather what happens during such times that could become aberrative!"

For example, say a child is sick and asleep. His parents get into a fight in which they scream and yell at each other; the dramatization of this incident would then act as an engram on the child! In that same Chapter, Hubbard talks about "Prenatal traumatic incidents," and asserts that: "aberrated parents are bound to infect their children with engrams at times, but only if the child happens to be 'unconscious', or when their awareness is lessened in some way, such as when sick, asleep, or when running a fever."

It has to be made clear, however, that this would only occur whenever one or both of the parents are dramatizing an engram of their own! Imagine the case where they are having a party, and get rather loud and rambunctious; although the voices are loud, everyone is just having fun. In such instances we would not talk about a dramatization of an engram.

Now, if we take birth as an example, we would get an entirely different scenario! If it is a traumatic birth and the mother has been given drugs, anything the doctor or nurses would say during, and even shortly after the birth, will be recorded in both the mother's and baby's subconscious! If during this time someone would drop a heavy object that would register as a shock wave; the noise would be implanted into both of the mind of both mother and child. Then, at a later date, when either of them are in a lowered emotional state and some-thing happens that approximates this sound, both mother and child will have the birth engram triggered and will react out of proportion to the actual sound. Should a doctor become angry, whatever he says, will be literally stored in the memory of both mother and child. (Dianetics, Book 2, Chapter VIII)

A good example of this happened, when I was giving birth to my son, Jonathan. Unbeknownst to me and the attending nurse, the umbilical cord was wrapped around the baby's neck, making it pointless for me to follow the instruction "to push." I tried as hard as I could, but apparently it wasn't good enough and the nurse yelled: "Push harder! That baby is going to die of lack of oxygen, unless you do!" Luckily, this incident happened after I was already Clear, so it wasn't too difficult to contact, and clear up a few weeks later. I was happy to get rid of that engram because I had been having repeated nightmares that my baby was suffocating.

The above example shows how important it is, to take the mother in session as soon as possible after a painful delivery. The baby will have to wait until it is at least 8 years of age before this engram can be properly cleared. Here's what happened to my son, Jonathan, as he was growing up. Whenever we would take him out in the car and strap him in the seat belt, he would go berserk! After a while I realized this would only occur when the belt would push against his throat. As soon as I put two and two together and told him about the umbilical cord being wrapped around his neck during his birth, it never bothered him again!

L.Ron Hubbard was one of the first that warned against 'conversations' and noises during birth, or surgery. This concept later became more popular and now it is pretty well accepted in society in general, and in the medical establishment in particular.

Of course, as you can tell from the above example mother and child will dramatize an engram, each in their unique way. It follows that Clearing one member of the family is not always sufficient to solve the problems of the family as a whole. However, there will be one person less in the 'drama of contagion of aberration'! Furthermore, we have to realize that many of these engrams have phrases in them that will be picked up by the child. Say, a father is giving his son a sound spanking while yelling: "I am only doing this for your own good. Spare the rod and spoil the child!" the son, once he be-comes a father, will dramatize the very same thing, when his child has been naughty, ........"because it is good for him"?

I am sure, I don't have to belabor this point; you only have to look at the news and see the violence of wife battering and child abuse and see the evidence. It is also a well known fact that children of alcoholics will themselves seek solace in the bottle, as soon as they run into circumstances that will bring them down the emotional scale (see Chapter 6), or even because they think that is the thing to do. I recently ran into a 40 year old man, who had his first sips of beer when only five years old and sitting on his (alcoholic) father's lap. I had to tell him that he needed to go into Rehab first, before I could do anything with him. (One of the requirements for the Clearing work is that the client doesn't drink any alcoholic beverage during 24 hours prior to the session. For drugs the waiting period would be even longer!)

Clearing is most successful if all, or most, members of a family get their traumas handled. With a reasonably sane person it would only take about 25 hours (when properly administered by a professional Clearing Practitioner).

Just think what this could do for society as a whole; we would create a saner world. Utopia? Perhaps! An impossible dream? Well, you never know! If only one percent of the world's population would be cleared, it would have quite an impact on one's environment! Possibly, this could result in a contagion of de-aberr-tion! If enough people would receive the benefits of Clearing, a grass roots movement could once more be born (as it did in the fifties) where one would clear the other, in ever widening circles.

Together we could "Clear the Planet", as we would call it in Scientology. Whatever one would call the cleansing of that part of the mind on a global scale, it would create a saner society and could even hasten the phenomena of the "hundredth monkey effect." According to future predictions, imparted to Dannian Brinkley during one of his N.D.E.'s. we need to reach that point by 1996 or face the consequences. (I strongly recommend his book: Saved by the Light, just released!) I also recommend the reading of: "Mass Dreams of the Future" by Chet B. Snow, which on its front cover has the following subtitle: "Do we face an apocalypse or a global awakening? The choice is ours."

Suffice it to say that finding some way of handling our fears and easing the stress in our lives, is no longer "a cute thing to do." It is fast becoming a dire necessity. This Study Manual will teach you one way in which it could be done. One way in which we could, indeed, clear the Planet. It was this idea that captured my imagination when I first decided to become a Clearing Practitioner. As a result most of my family and friends have received Clearing, which has made a tremendous difference, not only in my life but also in their own lives and that of their children.

This may be difficult to believe for some of you that are constantly exposed to that crazy world out there, but - most of the time, I am even not aware that aberration is still rampant, until I pick up a paper or listen to the evening news. It saddens me that the Clearing Techniques are not more widely known and accepted, while they are capable of removing those impulses that drive people to commit the most heinous crimes.

I often asked myself what could happen if this science of the mind would become available to ordinary people as well as mental health professionals and doctors. It would be conceivable that it could be taught in such a way that it could be used by anyone who can read and write. If Clearing would catch on - and become the thing to do - I can guarantee you that the crime rate would drop proportionately (as has also been proven by actual scientific experiments with TM.)

Even if, only one child would be spared from being hurt or killed by handling the stress and traumatic experiences in the past that set of the trigger of the emotional impulses of the abuser, I feel that the job of compiling this Manual has been worthwhile!

Children can receive Clearing as soon as they are about eight years old. If you know of a child that has had some traumatic incident happening to him or her, which is causing problems, please tell its parents about Clearing, or give them a copy of this book. It probably would be the best gift you could give them. It generally would only take a couple of hours to remove the pain caused by the traumatic incident, and return them to the innocence of their childhood. How do I know this? I have seen it happen many times, under my very eyes!

In the next Chapter we will examine what sets of the hidden explosive charge; what causes a reasonably sane person to suddenly snap and go berserk; what are the underlying causes for irrational behavior and insanity!

 


 

Setting Off the "Emotional Trigger"

Chapter VI of "Dianetics" (p. 141) talks at length about 'Keying in the Engram'. Now, what does Hubbard mean by this exactly? He means we are sitting on a time bomb, and explains how an engram can lie dormant for years without getting re stimulated, (stirred up) and at the slightest provocation blows up in your face! What happens is that: "As soon as something happens to remind a person of the contents of the traumatic incident, the trigger is pulled, and the charge - which could be as small as a temper tantrum and as forceful as an erupting volcano - kicks in!"

This is what Hubbard calls 'a lock', i.e.: "The moment the secondary* and engram* get locked together", we talk about a lock which is called a "key in." In the days when I would still be using the old terminology, my pre-Clears - who had never been ex-posed to the technical jargon - would have difficulties in getting the concept. So I devised the following demonstration: I would point to the door of my office and tell them: "Let's say this is the engram!" Next I would indicate the door stile and say: "Now let us pretend that this is a secondary." Then I would put the 'key' in the 'lock', and demonstrate that when I did that, the two would be locked together, in other words a lock would be added, making it hard (or even impossible), for one to leave the room without first unlocking the door, by taking the 'key out'!

Once I had done so, I would show, that it was now possible to go in and out the door, without either the secondary or engram preventing one from doing so; the two were disconnected which would result in a state of 'release'. However, I showed that a new 'key-in' would lock the two together again, which would end the state of release. Only by removing the door (engram) permanently, could we prevent this from ever happening again, because there was nothing to lock onto. This is called an "erasure," the painful memories, contained in the incident, have been erased!

This is what happens in Clearing: "Once all of the available engrams from the reactive memory bank are removed (erased), one would have a "Clear," because all erroneous data (in the form of limiting beliefs installed), as well as the painful emotional charge will have been 'cleared'!

Of course, the above definition also implies that:

    1) A Clear can always experience an engram that did not surface during the Clearing work, once it gets triggered, and:

    2) If traumatized, can receive a new engram.

However, this can be contacted and handled in no time at all!

If one would compare the mind with a computer it would be self evident that an error in the pro-gram would create problems. As soon as the original error (false datum) is corrected, it stands to reason that the problem would cease to exist.

Another analogy that explains the difference between 'releasing' and 'erasing' is made clear by comparing the following: Say you wanted to get rid off the weeds in your yard! You could mow them down with a lawnmower and the weeds would no longer be visible (release). But, only if we went in there with a weed eater, would we get to the root of the problem and wipe them out for good; they have been 'erased'!

So, what type of incidents can trigger these traumas? The triggers are "those moments when something happens that reminds us (subconsciously) of the traumatic incident." From my experience alone, they could fill several pages, and then I would probably overlook many others. Anything, words, sights, a certain touch, taste or sound (similar to the content of an engram), could activate the trigger mechanism.

Examples of this phenomena are: the 'seat belt' triggering the incident during my son's birth, and the man at the party meeting the red-head, triggering what the surgeon said during his operation, i.e.: "Never to trust a redhead."

I have worked with quite a few clients who could not understand why the same issues (they thought they had dealt with long ago), kept cropping up. Especially, if they had been working on themselves for years, via psychotherapy and/or daily meditation. There are several explanations for this:

    1)The engram is so well hidden that without a thorough regression technique, such as Dianetic therapy, it is quite difficult to find,

    2)The engram may be located in either the prenatal area, or even in a past life;

    3) Unless one locates it, and exhausts its aberrative contents, it will trigger again, all-be-it less forcefully.

So, how do we go about finding these ëlocksí? We trace them back to 'basic! This means we regress the pre-Clears, until they reach the earliest incident of its kind on the chain. We do this, by asking them repeatedly for a specific 'earlier similar incident. The amazing thing is that "once we reach the basic incident (the root on the chain of incidents we are addressing will be discharged), find out what happened - and get the limiting belief that was made at that time - the whole chain of incidents of its aberrative contents! As a result, the pre-Clear will be forever free from that particular affliction.

What else do we need to know about these triggers in order to have a working knowledge of the subject? Perhaps the most important datum is to realize that known incidents (such as locks) are never the cause of the problem! They only serve as a trigger for the incidents that lie (hidden deep within the subconscious) before them.

So, the stable datum is that "If the person remembers the incident fully, it couldn't be the source of the problem!" One has to dig deeper (go earlier) to find the traumatic incident, containing pain and a degree of unconsciousness, to get to its source.

N.B.: This could very well explain the many cases that are dealing with child abuse or incest; the client "believes" her father raped her, because the therapist is looking for an incident of child abuse in order to find an explanation for her current problems with sex. The woman gets a flash of an incident where this seemed to have been the case.

However, this could have been just a memory floating to the surface of the actual rape, i.e. of her parents having intercourse while she was in the womb, being hurt and knocked out by the force of this happening. Alternatively, a man who have raped her in a past life, who looked like her father!

I can just imagine the heartache of the father who finds himself accused of the horrendous crime of sexually abusing his own daughter! I am pleased to see that he was cleared in the courts and that the therapist was held responsible.

I am happy to say, that this sort of thing would never happen in Clearing, thanks to the Clearing Practitioner's Code, which states specifically "never to evaluate" for the pre-Clear"! (Evaluate is used here as "telling a person what to think".)

The important thing to remember in Clearing, however, is" Does the incident contain physical pain and (a greater or lesser degree of) unconsciousness"? If so, we are dealing with an engram.

Ron Hubbard calls a secondary a 'secondary' because it is only 'secondary' to the engram; i.e., incidents that derive their force from the underlying engram. These are moments of a severe or shocking loss, (or a threat of loss) which contain emotions, such as anger, fear, grief, etc. There may be a degree of unconsciousness, but no real, i.e., physical pain. (Definition taken from the Technical Dictionary.)

A 'lock' then, (which reminds the reactive mind of the traumatic experience), only serves to 'lock' these traumatic experiences together which will unleash the full force of the engram. To give you a vivid picture, hereís what happens:

The trigger mechanism has been engaged; the pin of the grenade has been pulled! The charge is re-stimulated and the person does things he would never dream of doing in his normal state of mind! He or she is under the total control of the phrases contained in the engram that has just been stirred up. The next thing we know is that: the man beats his wife, the child throws a tantrum, the little old lady gets a migraine, and the reckless driver runs a red light and kills an innocent child, the sex offender, etc., etc.

I am sure I don't have to go into the gruesome details; all you have to do is to read the newspaper, or watch the evening news! I only touched upon the above examples, to give you an idea what happens in the subconscious mind; how the various kinds of incidents are put together and how they are triggered.

I hope it is now also clear what is the difference between 'releasing' and 'erasing'!

To repeat: releasing means coming out of whatever was bothering you for a certain period of time; erasing is getting rid of that problem for good!

I know of many therapies that will give the client temporary relief from the

consequences of traumatic incidents, or unwanted emotions, i.e., they experience a release! I know of none, apart from the Clearing techniques, that will erase all of the charge that is connected with them! Of course, this doesn't mean that they couldn't exist! (If anyone knows of another method that will achieve the above, i.e.: erasure," I would appreciate hearing from them.)

The only problem with releasing stuff is that there is no way of telling when those same traumatic incidents will get triggered again! The reactive mind can come like a thief in the night!

Conclusion: The most important difference between Dianetic therapy and other methods of Clearing is that in Clearing we are aiming for permanent 'erasure" (removal) of the painful emotions and other consequences of traumatic experiences that have happened to us in our past!

Wouldn't it be nice to rid yourself of all the pain and anguish that is contained in those traumatic experiences once and for all? I can assure you that with the use of the Clearing techniques this is no longer wishful thinking; it can become reality! Donít take away the gun; remove the bullets!

If, instead of locking people up, we would Clear them, guns would only be used for sports, never to kill people, because: 'a Cleared mind is a peaceful mind', the trigger mechanism has no explosive charge left! The last thing a Clear would want to do is kill another person, except in self-defense. The best rehabilitation of the criminal would be to search for and eradicate the traumatic experiences that cause him to pull the trigger, not to lock him up forever, or condemn him to death!

    If juvenile delinquents were given some Clearing sessions, they would again be-come useful members in society, instead of turning back to crime the minute they leave the detention center. So, "don't condemn the man, condemn his reactive mind!" It won't stand a chance of survival once it has been thoroughly examined and cleared of its aberrative content.

Of course, one wouldn't have to be a criminal to receive the advantages of Clearing! Even the best of us can benefit from the Clearing process, because for many of us, self-discovery must surely be the ultimate challenge, if not a dire necessity.

Finally, I too, believe what Socrates figured out a long time ago:

"An unexamined life is not worth living!"

 

 


 

 

Chapter 5
The State of Clear

There have been many definitions of this, what was considered an exalted state by devotees of the church of Scientology: "the State of Clear." From my own experience, both as a pre-Clear (a person not yet Clear) and a Clearing Practitioner, I can honestly attest to the following:

"A person who has had 'proper Clearing' should not have any psychoses, neuroses, compulsions and repressions, nor any self-generated diseases."

Furthermore, I have observed the following to be true:

  • Clears have a great deal of 'elan vital' (life force) which makes them very resilient. It would take quite a lot to beat them into submission!
  • They are generally quite healthy, although for those of us that were cleared at an already advanced age, a lot of irreversible damage had already been done to the body. Also one must keep in mind that as the mind influences the body, so does the body influence the mind! So, if you neglect your body, by eating junk food, taking drugs, smoking, or lack of exercise, it will respond, and sent negative messages to the mind.
  • Clears look much younger than their peers. A Clear doesn't seem to get the usual wrinkles, except for the usual 'laugh lines'!
  • They tend to be friendly and outgoing, and seldom lose control.
  • They have few, if any, fears and if a potential threat presents itself, they stay calm and collected.
  • They are not accident-prone and if they do get sick, recover very quickly. They are also quite healthy!
  • Clears are to be found in the higher levels on the Scale of Emotions. (See next Chapter!)
  • They generally are really be 'in the present', rather than focused on the past, or fearful of the future. They are aware of danger and can feel fear, but only when the situation warrants caution.
  • Clears have a higher than average I.Q., and since a lot of confusion has been removed from their memory bank, they tend to have excellent recall.

To summarize, I would say that - apart from still being affected to some extent by outside influences, Clears are in pretty good shape. Of course, this would only be the case, if all of their engrams had been relieved of their aberrative contents!

Of course, I can't guarantee that working with a lay person you will attain the Clear State, (the persons working together may want to order the video, and get some additional training to find out what is required to achieve that state). However, a person whose ëcaseí has been opened is always better off, than the case of some one who has never looked at what may be lurking in the dark recesses of their reactive mind! You will find that even after a few sessions, you will start noticing the difference. It is even quite possible for this to occur in the very first session!

(To assist would-be practitioners, or professionals who want to check out how Clearing is done, I have given explicit instructions in Part II of this Manual.)

Important Notes:

1) You really don't need to worry that you could damage some one by using the Clearing Techniques! The mind is a self-protecting mechanism, and apart from electric shock or surgery on the brain, no mistake can be made by anyone using these techniques, that can not be remedied by a professional Clearing Practitioner.

2) If you are dealing with a person who is physically ill, I would not recommend using the tech-niques, apart from the Healing Remedies in Part II. Even we, as professionals, will send such a per-son to a medical doctor. Only when it has been established that the illness is psychosomatic, will we agree to work with someone, who is seriously ill.

3) I would not recommend attempting to work with some one who is obviously insane, for instance, those that are obviously psychotic or schizophrenic. I would leave those people to those who have experience in dealing with severely aberrated persons. However, if you, yourself, and the person you will be working with are reasonably sane, and sufficiently educated to understand the theory in this manual, you will be able to do a good job of working with the Clearing procedures. I can't tell you how rewarding it is to be able to help another become healthier and happier as the Clearing progresses. Not only that, I promise you that you'll have a lot of fun in the bargain!

 


 

Background Data on the State Of Clear

After literally thousands of hours 'in the chair' I have come to the conclusion that there is no such thing as a perfect and permanent Clear, such as postulated by L. Ron Hubbard, in Book 1, Chapter 2, of "Dianetics, The Modern Science of Mental Health." This sublime state would only be achieved if "every engram of every possible life time of the person had been found and cleared of its aberrative contents. Even within the organization, the definition of ëClearí kept changing and the manner in which people could attain the state was changed around.

At first, one could only 'go Clear' by doing the "Clearing Course'. Later, it was announced that one could become a 'Dianetic Clear' while running Dianetics. Then it became possible to attest to "Natural Clear." Suddenly, the purported Clears came crawling out of the woodwork. This suited the Advanced Organizations fine, be-cause now the lower level organizations had to sent their "Clears" to them for further processing.

In the end the definition of Clear that became generally used was:

"A person who no longer has his own reactive mind!"

However, the problem now was, that many people wondered whose reactive mind was still alive and kicking after Clear!

Although, I can agree with most of the claims made by Hubbard in his book, I don't believe, that the optimum state he describes, has ever been fully realized. This could be partially due to the fact that, over the years, the Dianetic procedures became more and more 'rote' because the auditors (who used to talk too much - instead of listening) were instructed to follow the procedure, exactly. But Ron, him-self, used to warn us that it could never be done 'rote'! (i.e. a robotic procedure).

In the 1950's, when the Dianetics craze swept across America, people with very little prior training, worked on Clearing each other with the techniques as outlined in the original book. However, because there was such an overwhelming amount of data, they kept asking for assistance. Thousands of letters started pouring into the organization, and to cope with the great demand, the Dianetic Foundation was established in Elizabeth, New Jersey.

To complicate the relatively easy Dianetic procedure, a Galvanic Skin Response device, called an E-Meter was introduced, which forced people to do an E-Meter course, in order to apply the actions the updated version called for.

Then, in 1978 a new, updated version of the Dianetic procedure was released, presumably to do a more thorough job of ensuring that all possible engrams would be contacted and relieved of their aberrative content. However, this meant that the whole process became overly complicated. It was no doubt an attempt to get the client to contact the "feelings" in the incidents (as Ron had suggested all along!).

However, in my experience this didn't really happen. The auditors had to follow a certain strict procedure that didn't give them much leeway, as far as guiding a client in contacting the 'feelings'. As a result, the whole procedure became like 'reporting' what occurred, rather than 'reliving' what actually happened in the incident. Of course, this wouldn't be nearly as effective, because (and this is important to remember In order to achieve this, the pre-Clear should concentrate on the feelings in the incident. The better he or she can "duplicate" these feelings, the greater chance of complete erasure! The liability of not doing so, however, would result in a 'release state', rather than an 'erasure' (permanent removal of the psychosomatic or unwanted emotion).

On the bright side, it can be said that the Dianetic procedure of following a chain of similar incidents back to basic, invariably produces results; at times those results bordering on the miraculous! Just about every pre-Clear I have run on this procedure, until he/she is Clear, feels like a ''newborn baby"!

Here is what Ron Hubbard has to say about the "Clear" in DMSMH (Chapter 2):

"A clear can be tested for any and all psychoses, neuroses, compulsions and repressions (all aberrations) and can be examined for any autogenic (self-generated) diseases referred to as psycho-somatic ills."

The key word in the above definition is ëself-generatedí! It explains the newest definition above and also why Clears have been known to still suffer from some of these afflictions. The secret lies in the fact that, certain aberrations are precipitated by outside influences, such as other peoples' stuff, and 'disembodied entities' that are picked up from them 'telepathically'!

For years, this phenomena - Clears still showing evidence of aberration to some extent, puzzled Case Supervisors and practitioners alike, because - according to the available data - Clears should no longer have "a reactive mind" that would cause these kind of problems!

Eventually, staff members of the Advanced Research Department figured it out and designed a new program to address, and remove these influences. I, personally, had some of my biggest gains on this level. Indeed, people on the program had incredible wins! If done properly, any and all remaining psycho-somatics (and a host of other problems) would be permanently handled!

Fortunately, for us Independents, "Entity Clearing" is now freely available to all Independent Practitioners. For that we have to thank David Mayo and his team. For many years, David was the Senior Case Supervisor at the "Mecca of Technical Perfection," as the advanced Organization in Clearwater, Florida was called. After Mr. Mayo left the organization, the Church sued him over the right to use the materials of this level. David won the case and the judge ruled that we, in the Free Zone, were free to use them!

I have no intention to diverge from regular Clearing - the subject of this manual - to get into this advanced 'esoteric sounding stuff." My purpose is to make the Clearing technology available to the general public, not to expose the current church members to a subject that they (Church management) prefer to keep confidential. The reason that I mentioned it at all was to throw some light on "why it seemed to a lot of Clears that either Ron Hubbard, or the Church didn't deliver the goods."

So, if you are out there in the Free Zone, attempting to hide your remaining aberrations or misplaced emotions, please contact one of the Clearing Practitioners listed in the back of this manual. I am sure, that after some "Entity Clearing" you too will feel the difference! You, too, can become more causative over your life! In the next Chapter I shall show you the difference Clearing can make to your Emotional State.

 


 

Emotions - Below and Above "Clear"

Not just L. Ron Hubbard, but a score of other writers, have written self-help books on the problems that people run into, when their emotions get out of hand. Over the past 25 years, I have been working with my clients to discover the roots of these undesirable emotions.

I have found that, the popular practice in psychology of 'changing a person's behavior' either doesn't work (in the long run), or only succeeds in forcing the person to suppress the particular emotion that is causing trouble for him or her. What is more, the emotion thus suppressed, could create havoc in some part of the body and sooner or later manifests in some chronic condition, such as ulcers, cancer, and the like.

In Chapter VI of DMSMH, Ron talks about the ability of a Clear, "to withstand suppression of their 'high spirited' selves." Of course the heavier the suppression from a dominating person in their environment or from other causes (such as pro-longed stress or some other occurrence like the loss of a family member or job), the more this suppresser will push a person down the scale of emotional well-being. (See next Chapter for complete Scale!) Those, who already are pretty low on the Scale, are very likely to get sick or depressed, and in some cases end up wallowing in apathy; they have given up trying.

When we are in our natural state of mind, (such as is found in a Clear) we are able to meet life's challenges with a more cheerful disposition; we are definitely more resilient. The higher a person is on the Scale, the easier he or she will be able to cope with the inevitable set backs, and disappointments in life. These are the people who abide in the top 6 emotional states, such as, Serenity, Exhilaration, Inspiration and Curiosity.

Conservatism and Boredom, are borderline which means that people in these states do OK, until they are faced with severe set backs and/or overwhelming challenges. Those that find themselves in the lower emotional levels, such as Hostility (expressed/unexpressed), Fear, Grief, and Apathy, don't seem to have enough 'life force' (or the will) to rise above it.

When bad news hits, or in a fit of jealousy, they tend to either vent their feelings, by taking them out on someone or something else, or appeal for sympathy by playing the victim.

In his book: "The Celestine Prophecy" (pages 67-123), James Redfield divides people into four categories: "the Intimidator, the Interrogator, the Aloof person and the Poor me."

If I were to slot these into the Emotional Scale, it would divide up as follows: the Intimidator is generally in Anger or Antagonism; he will tend to suppress and control

others. However, if he's not quite up to doing so openly, he will be in Hidden Hostility. So where can we find these types on the Scale?

The Intimidator is definitely in 'Open Hostility'; he or she will be like the sergeant major, who makes sure nobody gets out of line.

The Interrogator dwells in the 'Hidden Hostility' band; he feels that by asking questions, he'll keep things under control.

The person who is Aloof is Apprehensive. He's keeping himself aloof from others out of fear of being found inadequate in some way.

The Poor Me, fluctuating around grief and unexpressed resentment. In the worst case scenario you will find them sinking into apathy or ending up in a mental institution!

James Redfield suggests that the first two types, i.e., The Intimidator and the Interrogator create either aloofness, or victim hood in others. Ron Hubbard would have called what they are doing: "suppression." One of the goals of Clearing would be to make people stronger, so they can stand up to those that try to control them, by refusing to be manipulated.

Redfield's insight, "that the struggle for power drains people of their energy," is 'spot on'; the same thing happens when people take advantage of a weaker person, lower on the Emotional Scale.

Wouldn't it be nice if we could change those negative emotions into positive ones? If we could get people to become more self-determined and less at the mercy of others? Just think, we wouldn't have to listen anymore to the "Poor Me" type, or have deal with the per-son who is incapable of intimacy!

One of the purposes in Clearing is to bring the person up the Scale, by handling the 'mind stuff', which tends to suppress their Emotional level.

Many books have been written on how to change our negative feelings into positive ones. One school of mind suggests 'positive thinking'. This type of approach would have a good chance of succeeding if the person concerned was in one of the top 6 on the scale.

However, I am afraid that this invariably doesn't work with people that are lower on the scale! In order for one to succeed one would have to have "exclusively" positive thoughts. As Shakespeare put it: "Doubts are the traitors of our mind!"

In my experience, the only surefire way of getting rid of unwanted, lower scale emotions, is to find their cause, and eradicate the reasons for these baser emotions.

Today, with Dianetic therapy (or Clearing, as we - in the Free Zone call it) it is no longer necessary to either vent your emotions, or suppress them, because there will be no explosive charge left to trigger. The fact is that people who have undergone Clearing will naturally move up - scale, become more buoyant so that they will be able to cope with a crises in a calm state of mind.

In Chapter VI of Mr. Hubbard's book, he takes pains to explain the ramifications of the lower emotional states, and how they sap the life force. However, for the purpose of this book, I felt that the above would suffice to give the reader a sense of what happens.

The important thing to remember is that:

Clearing will help eliminate those unpleasant emotional states, by removing the underlying causes of those undesirable, lower scale emotions!

Next, we shall take a look at how you emotional state affects you life; we will take you for a ride on the Emotional Roller coaster!

 

 


 

 

Taking a Ride on the Emotional Roller Coaster

In Chapter 3, Book I, of Dianetics, The Modern /Science, L. Ron Hubbard defines the goal of Man as follows: "the lowest common denominator of all his activities, the dynamic principle of existence, i.e., to survive! The basic assumption from which Dianetic therapy is operating could be summed up as follows: "to get a person up into the higher levels of the Emotional Scale by removing reactivity and aberration."

Ron wrote a 300-page book on this subject, called 'Science of Survival'. He calls this scale the 'tone' scale, as the idea is to raise some one's 'tone'. In doing so we would find that this scale really represents a gradient scale between death (of the body) and being fully alive. It could just as easily have been called the scale of aliveness.

Note:
I want you to be aware that the scale below is not the complete scale, i.e. each level has many sub divisions!

The lowest level is APATHY; a level where a person has given up trying, and is only surviving because others, such as family members (or the State) are providing their basic necessities. Here we find not only the homeless tramp, who even refuses to come in from the cold, but also the lonely old man in the nursing home who has lost all incentives to live. These people have usually suffered some deep disappointments, feel wronged or betrayed and have given up any goals they may once have had.

Climbing a bit higher on the scale, we run into GRIEF, (or Sorrow). I am not talking here about the grief that naturally follows the death of a loved one or some other sad event; I am talking about those people that are stuck in this level. A person in this state cries for help and pleads for sympathy. They can be very difficult to be around, because all you will hear is their sad tale. If you were to give them some sympathy by really listening to them and then bring up the future, you might succeed in pulling them up into the next level.

APPREHENSION, (Fear; This can cover quite a wide range of emotions that would start with apprehension to Propitiation (doing things to appease or make favorable), to Fear and sheer Terror. Most people harbor a few select, temporary fears, such as a fear of spiders. There is a time to be afraid (at least to be aware of impending danger), but when it becomes chronic, every aspect of life becomes a potential threat. They are continually frightened; everything is dangerous. They are afraid even to own things (for fear of losing them again). They talk about fearful things, whether real or imaginary.

UNEXPRESSED HOSTILITY is the next level we'll hit on our way up the scale. People who are chronically in this level are very uncomfortable to be around.

Ron Hubbard described it as 'the most dangerous and wicked level on the scale'. Apart from those in Apathy, these are the only people who will refuse Clearing, if only because they're afraid you'll find out what they are really thinking, which would make them vulnerable. They constantly feel they have to stay ahead of the next guy, even if this means undermining their perceived competitor. Their hostility is hidden behind many, often jovial, disguises.

So be aware! When you're not looking, they may stab you in the back; they don't dare to oppose you openly.

EXPRESSED HOSTILITY (Antagonism) is, of course, much easier to spot. This will range from expressing resentment, to anger and opposition. Before you know it, you'll find yourself in a heated argument. These people have to argue; they must rebel. They will engage you in a long discussion in order to prove that they are right. They are often blunt, honest (but tactless), and all because underneath all that ego stuff beats a fearful heart. Their basic intention would be geared to staying ëtop dogí and being right, at your expense.

AMBIVALENCE. When one is ambivalent, one is on the borderline of this chart. This is the emotional level at which one has 'mixed feelings', between liking and disliking a certain person, activity, or experience. As a consequence the likelihood of succeeding in an activity is viewed as about equal to the likelihood of failing. You never know where you stand with these people and can't rely on them.

BOREDOM. This is really quite a pleasant state where one is unconcerned about the larger issues of the world and/or detached from other people's problems. These people are often narcissistic and only interested in themselves. They are usually 'well adjusted'. His attention is on comfort and leisure, and slightly scattered. He wants to be entertained. His goal would be to be left alone to do his own thing, such as putter in the yard, or play a game of golf.

CHEERFULNESS. Once we get to this level, life takes on a totally different color; these people are skipping their way through, rather than dragging their feet.

To them, life, indeed, is just a bowl of cherries! They are a joy to have around and here you find the incurable optimist. When I was a child, I generally was to be found in this level and as a result I got nicknamed: "Little Sunbeam"! Once people get older this often changes to:

CONSERVATISM, In this level, people have a relaxed confidence about the prospects of success. However, they are wary of change or differing viewpoints, and prefer to adhere to what is established, safe and prudent. Their motto would be: "Donít rock the boat!" One can depend on them and they feel they are the backbone of society!

CURIOSITY. When you meet a person who is on this level, one of the first things you'll notice is their aliveness. They will take an active interest in subjects related to a higher quality of life. There's more involvement and more activity.

This level can be clearly seen in little children when they get to that stage of bombarding you with questions. Then, as soon as they are satisfied, they're off to something new. They are very eager to learn new things. Their enthusiasm is infectious, and they are loved by almost everyone. Often they delight in entertaining others with their high-spirited shenanigans. However, due to their adventurousness they also tend to get themselves into trouble.

INSPIRATION (Creatively expressive). This level almost needs no explanation. All you have to do is watch children, or artists at work, (which is 'play' to them), whether they are inspiring others with their words or ideas, or are demonstrating their creativity in their paintings, poems, or something else that they have created, by using their lively imagination.

EXHILARATION. This level is just an expanded form of enthusiasm. It can get a bit wild! If you like your peace and quiet you had better stay away from those that are 'having the time of their lives'. It is the feeling of going down the roller coaster, absolutely thrilling! Like racecar drivers, they thrive on danger. They want freedom and expansion! What they need is balance, and rather than falling back down the Scale why not suggest to them to take part in some sort of calming activity (such as meditation) to move them up to:

LOVE and BLISS. There is really not much that I can say about this level; you have to experience it, to appreciate what I'm talking about. If I were to attempt to describe it, you would find me using all of the superlatives you could possibly find in the dictionary. So, let me suffice by calling it a state between Ecstasy and Bliss. The only drawback is that they are often either living in seclusion, or giving the impression of being totally detached. However, it would be a mistake to view this as indifference; they are also capable of great compassion.

Summary: I must point out that there is a wide range of Emotions in between each of these levels. If you want the complete chart, I suggest you get a copy of "Science of Survival", written by L. Ron Hubbard.

How to evaluate where you are on the E-Scale.

To check where you are on the scale, and which emotional issues you may still have to deal with (and transmute), is to find your 'chronic' emotional level. This means that you have to determine your attitudes and feelings with the aid of the chart - as to where you usually find yourself. It is quite clear that we all fluctuate between two levels (higher on our good days and lower on the bad! In order to pinpoint where you are, you must find where you get stuck.

Then you could ask a friend to give you some Clearing sessions. The emotional feeling should then be inserted in the blank space of the first question, i.e.:

"Locate a time when you felt like giving up! (Apathy),

Your partner should then run you through the procedure, as outlined in Book II. Eventually, when you will get to the root of this particular feeling or emotion, you will realize why you got to feel that way in the first place ñ and - here comes the magic"... it should never bother you again! Wouldn't that be great?

In the next chapter I shall elaborate on how to use the E-Scale life and how to discover where others are at any given time, or where they, themselves, are stuck.

 


 

How to Use the Emotional Scale

First of all it would be useful to find where you, yourself, are on this scale. We are not talking here about occasional relapses, we must find our chronic level, i.e., the emotion we are most often displaying. Once we have done that, we can start to examine our fears and learn to either let go (perhaps with the help of a professional) or deal with them in some way. You will find that the only thing that keeps a person stuck in a

Particular level is fear! I have found that often just confronting your fears (and doing it anyway) helps to alleviate the fear. For example, say you find yourself in hidden hostility. Imagine what it would be like if you could put it all out in the open. Then check why that may not be a good idea - and you'll find your fear!

Only after plotting yourself on the Scale can you start looking at where others are located. Then, knowing what to look for will give you a handle on how to approach this person. The idea is to get into acting out the level just above that of the other person and then pull them up by saying or doing something that a person on that level would say or do. In this way we can pull them up, a little bit at the time until they are more agreeable to be around!

For example, your friend is in "Grief" over breaking up with her boy friend. You get her to look at all the pros and cons of the relationship and at the likelihood of it failing once it would have been too late to get out of it. Make her realize that marrying the guy could have been disastrous. Once you have gotten her into Apprehension, steer the conversation to things that have made her angry with him in the past. (It always seems to be easier to get over losing someone when you get angry with that person). Next you find some things that will pull her up into Ambivalence, after which you pretend to getting bored with it, etc., etc., - right up the Scale, as far as it will go.

Of course, one should keep in mind that - although quite helpful - this method is not likely to cure some one who's in a chronic condition. If you find that your friend drops back down again, the minute your back is turned, it is time to advice her to get some professional help from a qualified Clearing Practitioner.

The only way that you could really help your friend get off the emotional roller coaster is by clearing her, of all the underlying reasons why she's feeling the way she does. You will be surprised how easy it is, once you get the hang of it!

Once every possible fear has been cleared, you will have risen to a level where the only emotions you'll be experiencing will be high on the Scale. That's the time for you and your friend to celebrate. And, what better way to test your fears than by taking a trip to Magic Mountain and taking a ride on a real roller coaster! I'm willing to bet my bottom dollar, that you'll feel exhilarated!

Other uses of the E-Scale

Yet, another way of looking at the above scale is to ascertain the degree of aliveness that is present in the person, or group, you are dealing with. You will find that life becomes a lot easier (and certainly more worth living), once we start inhabiting the higher emotional states of mind.

If you look at the scale from another angle, i.e., that of 'Ego," you will notice that the lower the level, the more prevalent are the egotistical traits of insecurity, make wrong and victim hood. Fear is the common denominator of the lower levels, until we hit Apathy, where we have become numb to everything, including fear.

Once we conquer fear, there is only love and compassion. As Jampolski so rightly says: "Love is letting go of fear!" The moment, we feel confident and self-assured, there will be very little that can threaten us. It is only when we become more secure within ourselves that we can free up our attention to include other people and allow for their idiosyncrasies, without needing to control or manipulate.

Becoming familiar with the above Scale will also help you to 'choose your kind of people'. Wouldn't it be great if more and more people would be able to honestly feel that:

"Life is just a bowl of cherries!"

 

 


 

 

Chapter 7
Life's Expressions

According to L. Ron Hubbard (see DMSMH: Book I, Chapter 4) "All the purposes of Man can be considered to lie within a spectrum of four Dynamics (the urge, thrust and purpose of life - SURVIVE - in its four manifestations).

Later, another four were added and together they make up the different aspects of a person's life and livingness. L. Ron basically described these different aspects as ëan urge toward ultimate survivalí. Now this was fine, until the other four dynamics were added. Then it seemed strange to call them 'urges'; for instance, "I can't imagine God having an urge to survive!" For that reason I am more comfortable with using the term:

'Expressions'. Here they are in sequence:

First Expression: Everything connected to our own separate identity.

Second Expression: One-on-one intimate relationships and/or sexual partner.

Third Expression: Our interaction with a group, or groups.

Fourth Expression: Concerns and activities related to Mankind.

Fifth Expression: Our relationship with all other living things.

Sixth Expression: Anything having to do with the material world.

Seventh Expression: Our spiritual endeavors, as well as anything spiritual.

Eight Expression: Our relationship with the Supreme Being or Infinity.

 

In the next Chapter we shall look at the various ways in which we express our-selves in more detail. The above chart is given for easy reference!

 

The Eight Expressions of Life

There is, of course, a variety of ways in which we can evaluate our lives, and see where it is going. To really get a grip on how versatile we are in expressing ourselves in the different areas of our life, I have found the following subdivision very useful. In the next Chapter I will give you a process that you can apply, using these Expressions, that'll help you to enrich your life.

First Expression: the ways in which we express ourselves as a unique human being, with our separate personality, our body, our mind with its character traits, and subsequent behavior, that sets us apart from others.

Second Expression: our involvement in intimate relationships with another, (be that a close friend, family member, or sexual partner.)

Third Expression: the ways in which we express ourselves within a group, such as the extended family, co-workers, fellow team mates or club members.

Fourth Expression: our relationship, and involvement with the rest of mankind. Issues like war between nations, the third world, world government and world peace would fit into this category.

Fifth Expression: our interaction with all other living things, such as plants, and animals. Environmental issues would fall under this expression as well as animal rights.

Sixth Expression: our dealings with the material world. Example: issues around money, our possessions, in short anything that is non-spiritual in the entire solar system.

Seventh Expression: encompasses anything spiritual, such as the astral plane, spirit guides, ghosts, poltergeists and other disembodied entities.

Eight Expression: denotes our relationship with the Supreme Being (whatever this means to you!)

Once you start looking at your life from the viewpoint of the above subdivision, you will be surprised how easy it becomes to see where you are doing well, or which Expression needs more attention. If you take your relationship, for example, you could set a goal for the relationship and then find out - by using the questions in the next Chapter - in what areas you and your spouse are aligned and which area need to be improved upon. If people would work on this - before tying the knot - they would have a far better idea of where their partner is coming from, whether their interests in life are similar, or what area they need to work on.

It goes without saying that the above scale can also be used in businesses, and other groups or organizations.

For me, doing the process, with the use of the above scale, has often been a revelation! I wished I had done this, before I got married! But, then I wouldn't have had all those wonderful learning experiences that basically helped to accelerate my spiritual growth, and as such - retrospect - were difficult, yet valuable. I hope the above will help you learn your lessons faster, so you can achieve a greater intimacy that you could ever have dreamt of!

It is interesting to note that the '8th Dynamic' is rarely talked about in the Church of Scientology. The definition given (on page 129 of the Technical Dictionary) reads as

follows: "It is carefully observed here, that the science of Scientology, does not intrude into the Dynamic of the Supreme Being." As a result no one ever talked about the

subject! The parishioners were more or less left to draw their own conclusions, which fitted in well with the image of a non-denominational religion.

Hubbard claims that none of these 'dynamics' is necessarily stronger than the others.

I agree in principle, but only if a human has left behind all aberrations (including their ego-centered viewpoints) and is able to operate from the vantage point of the Eight Expression where - it is said - "We are all One"! However, that is easier said then done! We are inclined to sacrifice many things, when our personal survival, or that of our loved ones, is threatened, or for some selfish, short term gain.

According to Hubbard, the Equation of the Optimum Solution for any problem would be; "a solution which achieved the maximum benefit in all of the dynamics... "The conduct survival pattern is built upon this equation of the optimum solution. It is the basic equation of all rational behavior and is the equation on which a Clear functions. It is inherent in Man." (Book 2, Chapter 4.)

If we were to translate these words into simpler language we would have to convey that it takes a rational (cleared?) person to make the kind of decisions which would benefit most of the dynamics (Expressions. As long as we are operating with false ideas, misconceptions and limiting beliefs, our solutions are bound to be affected, to a greater or lesser degree. Our past programming could influence our decision-making process to the point where the solution found, could create new problems, rather than solving the one we are dealing with! The more aberrated a person is, the greater would be the consequences of making a wrong decision.

In his book Future Sex, Stephan Davis (also a former Scientologist) brings up another interesting aspect about the 8 Dynamics, which he too calls 'Expressions'. On his Chapter, called: Sex is not the Issue, (pg. 196) he states:

"One of the most important things about these Expressions is that they actually form an inverted pyramid, one sitting on its peak, with the first Expression serving as the foundation for all the rest. Think of it, if you will, as one of those doughnut toys you may have had as a child, each doughnut a little bigger than the last, all stacked neatly on a peg. The whole point is that if the smallest doughnut (the one on the bottom) has an inherent weakness in it, the entire structure will collapse. You've heard the saying that a chain is only as strong as its weakest link? In our analogy, then, if the First Expression is flawed, the rest can-not hope to survive."

To give an example: we find that we won't be able to solve our sexual problems (2nd Expression) without first handling our issues with loving the Self (1st Expression). If we have problems with our own identity and are fearful of people, how can we hope to have successful relation-ship with another (except in a co-dependent type of relationship), let alone feel comfortable, or be effective in a group?

The idea is then, to build a sound foundation by doing everything in our power to improve our-selves (1st Expression) before getting into - or at least while being involved in - relationships with others. (Of course, it goes without saying that improving ourselves should include some form of self-reflection as well as taking care of the body).

Of course, this doesn't give us license to just devote all (or even most) of our time to taking care of our own interest. It would not be acceptable, I am sure, to the other people in your family if they felt you were constantly goofing off, working out in the gym - or even spending all your free time attending events to improve your spiritual life, etc., while they do all the work! Naturally, there could be periods in one's life that one would have to put more emphasis one area of one's life, to the exclusion of some of the others. As long as this is only temporary, while the emergency is in effect, that would be fine.

Remember though that: "All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy!"


Part of the art of creating a balance in your life is to pay attention to each, or at least most of these Expressions. For instance, I am sure that nobody would mind if you spent some of your leisure time on improving yourself. One of the ways in which this can be done it to clear out all the old programming from our sub-conscious, thus obtaining a stronger sense of self and become a person, who can reach out to others and make a difference!" You will find that the more a person is able to 'Be' a part of each of these Expressions, the more he or she will be liked and appreciated in society.


All it takes is for people to get "Cleared" of the charge that has accumulated in the different areas of their lives, to release the life force that is holding one back from being an active, contributing member of society as a whole, and within one's family in particular! What is more, people that have received Clearing are generally well respected in their job.

They also have much fewer absences due to illness! Ultimately, the ideal scene would be to create a balance in all of these areas, while operating from the 7th (or to some degree on the 8th) Expression. As Wayne Dyer proposes in his book: "You'll see it when you believe it": Instead of being a human being having a spiritual experience, let's work to-wards being a Spiritual Being having a human experience!"

If you feel that you would like to find out 'how' this can be done, read on! You may be quite surprised how easy it is! All it takes is a partner to work with, time, patience and persistence.

You and your partner would probably attain the Clear State in about one hundred hours. On the other hand, you may not have (or are not willing to invest), that much time. In that case you could ask for a professional Clearing Practitioner. If you are already in pretty good shape, he or she should be able to get you to attain the state in a fraction of that time. In fact, here at the Center it usually takes less than 25 hours! When people reach that Clear State, they generally feel they can trust their intuition, and would be in a better frame of mind to follow the following advice:

Go beyond reason to Love.
It is safe,
It is the only safety.

How To Enrich Your Life!

There are many ways in which the above data can be successfully applied. For instance you will find that it is much easier to examine and evaluate your life and livingness, if you can divide it up into smaller segments. In order to grow, we need to expand our sphere of influence; in order to keep the different areas in our life in harmony, we need to create a balance between the different Expressions of life. The more they are aligned, the more harmonious our life will be. Ultimately, the game would be to get each of these areas in shape, to a point where we are able to be:

    1) A healthy and happy human being that takes care of their unique needs; a person who can honestly say: "I love who I am";

    2) Able to experience "intimacy" (not necessarily sexual), with one or more close friends or family members;

    3) Contributing, to a group, in some meaningful way, or to some special interest, job and/or hobby;

    4) Concerned with, and actively contributing in some way towards the benefit of the race, the nation, the planet;

    5) Doing all we can to take good care of our animals and plants;

    6) Abundant in all material things which are necessary for our survival. (Not 'materialistic' in an ego centered way!)

    7) Evolving spiritually; 'taking care of the Soul'; working towards spiritual goals, such as developing their psychic abilities, making things happen - as if by Magic, contacting Spirit Guides, or finding that at times they can actually attain 'God-Consciousness',

    8) Achieving all of the above (if only for short intervals where everything feels balanced) becoming One with "All-that-Is"!

Listing the above goals for each of these Expressions, I realize how impossible it is, to even dare to suggest what a person's highest goal would be, on any one of them, without running the risk of evaluating "what these should be." So, forgive me, for getting carried away into these 'Celestial Realms'!

Time to get back to earth, and take a look at how we could apply the above data to a more mundane situation!

For example, say that you're not too happy with the way your relationship is going. You could then write down your goals on each separate Expression and get your 'significant other' to do the same. Before you know it, you will spot where the two of you are in alignment and in which areas you are ëmis'-aligned.

You may realize how much the two of you really have in common, and make a concerted effort to be more tolerant towards your partner with regards to those little things that rub you the wrong way.

However, if you do find that you and your partner have widely diverging goals on most of the above Expressions you would do well to go and see a marriage counselor, before the relationship goes off the rails. If you are not sure where either of you is situated, you can spot the misalignment(s) by asking yourself the following questions:

1a) What is (name of your partner) contributing to my 1st Expression?

1b) What am I contributing to the 1st Expression of...?

2a) What is he/she contributing to my 2nd Expression? (Intimacy, sex life)

2b) What am I contributing to his/her 2nd Expression?

You could go through all of the Expressions this way, and discover which one needs to be improved upon, to get it into balance. Then, the time has come to ask your partner to answer the questions, as above on each of the Expressions. Only then will the

differences show. For instance, you may discover how little the two of you have in common.

For example, you may find that your husband is putting all of his attention and energy into his job (playing golf, watching, or participating in sports), thereby neglecting the other aspects. He may also not be interested in any kind of intimacy!

As a husband, you may realize that your wife neglects everything for the sake of the children, even herself, and is not interested in anything else in life. She may even spent most of the day watching the Soaps, neglecting both kids and the housework, she could be so into her job and family that by bedtime, she is "too tired" to either have or enjoy sex. Supporting her, by helping around the house, or with the kids, may very well handle that problem. Then we have the couple where one spends all his/her time earning the money while the other spends it!

Whatever, the situation may be, you will find that the one who is low on the Scale will eventually pull the other down! Furthermore, it takes a lot of energy to constantly be handling other people's lower emotions!

The higher scale person will generally pull up the lower scale person, but this relationship will be fraught with difficulties, and could create ulcers and heart failures, unless the partner refuses to allow excesses in dramatizations of the lower scale emotions.Then, they may discover - to their consternation - how different their viewpoints really are! One partner may be totally immersed in the material side of life, while the other party, couldn't care less for material possessions and be interested only in the 7th Expression to the exclusion of all else! The other day, I heard of a good example that illustrates the above.

A very intelligent lady, whom I shall call Ashtar, was very interested on communicating with space ship occupants. She claimed to actually have regular conversations with them! However, be that as it may, what got her into trouble husband was that she talked openly about this subject, even on TV. This severely affected her relationship, because this idea was totally unreal to the husband, and embarrassed him in front of his friends and colleagues. Apparently, this in fact jeopardized a promotion of his, in that his employer felt that his wife was rather 'outlandish' in her viewpoints. He asked her to stop talking about it, but she couldn't. Needless to say, they ended up getting a divorce

This brings up a very important datum: "It is, indeed, very important for two people in a relationship to have: similar viewpoints and interests, cultural back grounds and comparable intelligence, education and the ability to communicate!" But, what is even more important is that they should be on an equal footing,

In order to achieve harmony it would also be helpful if they were in agreement regarding a majority of subjects. If this is not the case, couples end up just co-existing, often just staying together for the sake of the children.

In today's society, where people live much longer than, say 50 years ago, it is no longer very common for the couple to stay together "till death do us part." Over the years, goals and interests change, the couple starts to grow apart. If this happens, the world- view of one partner begins to change in a direction where the other can't (or won't) follow. In such a case we would speak of irreconcilable differences and it would be better to each go your separate ways.

This need not necessarily be the end of the world; for once it has been established that the relationship has deteriorated to the point where it is making everybody miserable. If, they can't find a common ground and are fighting constantly, it would, indeed, be better to separate, before the tension becomes so great that they end up hating each other. Staying together would make things worse, rather than better and often it is the children that suffer most!

Relationships - like anything else in life - are subject to change!

 

"The art would be to change the relationship, if at all possible from spouse to friend, instead of cutting the other off completely, or becoming enemies!"

I, myself, have been married and divorced three times. At no time has there been severe animosity between my ex's and myself, or even between my ex-husbands. In fact, it is kind of neat to see them interacting in a most amiable way. I believe that one of the main reasons for the successful changeover from spouse to friend has been - to a large extent - due to the Clearing all of us have received. The movie: "The war of the Roses" is a good example of what can happen if the couple stayed together, long after that elusive entity called "Love" has flown out of the window. Once, a couple gets embroiled in nasty court battles over the equity, or the custody of the kids, they end up hating each other. Often a painful, mud-slinging divorce creates a lot of damage in which all parties, including the children, end up losing.

However, the good news is that, (except in those instances of an unwillingness to change, incompatibility, physical or mental abuse), there are lots of issues that can be re-solved. Using the above division, you can catch what it is that is missing and correct it before it gets out of hand. Indeed, working with the exchange of the 8 Expressions to create a harmonious balance, can give your life the fullness you have been dreaming of!


The important thing is not to get too serious in answering the above questions. The best way to go about it is for each person to write down their answer and show it to their partner. He or she then reads what the other has written, after which they take it in turn to discuss the similarities and differences in viewpoints. Whatever happens, try not to make the other person wrong, or become accusative. If you find you can't handle it without getting into arguments, please consult a professional counselor, or ask a trusted friend to help with the discussion.

However, even if your relationship is successful, it still would be quite interesting to take a look at your respective views on the different Expressions.

In fact, I am willing to bet, you'll have many new insights along the way and what is more you would then be able to create a greater intimacy than you could have dreamt of!

 

 


 

 

Chapter 8
Past Lives - Fact or Fantasy?

Growing up in a Catholic family, I was indoctrinated into believing that "we only live once, and that ëmy soulí (whatever that was) would go to Heaven, Hell or Purgatory when I died"! Therefore, "it was of vital importance to be a good girl." There was never any mention of the possibility that "we are spiritual Beings, created in the image of God" and consequently, when I got involved with the Clearing work, I would hit a blank wall as soon as I ran out of related experiences in this life time. I would protest that there couldn't be an earlier similar incident and so we would hit an impasse!

Yet, for some reason, I had been fascinated all of my life with French history, particularly around the time of Napoleon, when he held court in Fontainebleau. I also avidly read romance novels of that period. (As an aside, it was interesting to note that on a trip to France I was mysteriously drawn to visiting the castle, and felt totally at home. It was like a real deja-vu experience!)

Getting back to my first experience of Past Lives, it was strange to find that, after having regressed to an incident when I was a baby, everything would go blank, and try as I might, I couldn't get past that barrier. However, as the Dianetic process revolves around the datum that "one has to get to the basic incident on the chain before a situation will resolve," we were in a real quandary! The practitioner eventually caught on to what was happening and broke through this barrier, by asking me: "Concerning a pain in the muscles of your neck, imagine what could have happened before the incident as a baby."

Realizing that all he wanted me to run was an 'imaginary' incident, I felt greatly relieved! Now, nobody could make a fool of me, afterwards! Then, I closed my eyes, concentrated on 'the feeling of pain in my neck muscles' when suddenly "all hell broke loose." I found myself being carted off to the guillotine, amongst the cheers and jeers of the onlookers.

I could see the scene in 3 D, vividly and in full color. I recalled needing some assistance to climb the scaffold. The next thing I knew, a blindfold was put on me, and my head was lowered onto the guillotine. I clearly remembered my last thoughts; "Will I go to heaven or end up in hell? "It must be hell," I decided, be-cause I was being put to death for being an adulteress. I felt the blade hit the back of my neck and I was aware of waiting to see where, indeed, I had ended up.

To my complete surprise, however, the sounds didn't change; I could still hear the crowd yelling and screaming; I could still hear the band playing. The next thing I knew was that some one removed the blind fold and - lo and behold - I realized I wasn't dead! Apparently, the old man I had been betrothed to, didn't really want to lose his pretty wife; he only wanted to teach her a lesson!

Therefore, he had instructed the executioner to wrap cloth around the blades, so they would only hit my neck, without cutting off my head!

In those days of arranged marriages, there were only two choices a woman could make: do whatever the husband told her to do, or enter into a convent and become a nun. I choose the latter, because I could not bear having to live with this mean, impotent and decrepit old man. You can imagine my surprise when I opened my eyes in the session and realized I was speaking fluent French! I had to translate the story, so my practitioner could understand what had happened. However, I discovered that the incident completely and permanently handled the problems I had been having with my neck muscles!

So, what is past life regression, and how does it fit in with the Clearing work? Before, we get into the specifics, I should - perhaps - first talk about the subject of Re-incarnation, as this is the first step to understanding the subject. Reincarnation - the idea that we live consecutive lives - would solve quite a lot of mysteries. The important thing to remember is that: "believing in Reincarnation or Past Lives, is not at all essential to making Clearing work!"

So for those of you who prefer to believe otherwise, it would be quite o.k. to skip the next Chapter! The only stipulation is that should the person you are working with on Clearing, come up with a past-life incident in session, you would also have to grant him or her the right to believe that this really happened.

In such a case, all you'd have to do is acknowledge by saying: "O.K" (or some other neutral response) and then ask them the other questions, as mentioned in the process. For instance, you would ask them "When did that happen?" Any approximate answer to this question will do (you don't have to get an exact date). Then you ask them: "How long did that incident last?" Next you tell them to focus on what's happening, first at the beginning of the incident, and later on the rest of that experience.

What one should keep in mind is, that you don't have to agree with the person; you don't have to believe that this is what really happened! All you have to do is: listen, acknowledge and ask the next question!

While working with this particular method of regression one should also make sure that:

" Whatever you think or believe should never be conveyed to your client in any way or form."

You will find that, as soon as the person you are trying to help notices that you don't believe what they are telling you, or that you disapprove of what they did, you will have lost them. They will never want to tell you anything - ever again - that is personal, or unusual, from that day on! In addition, it is also true that: "We are what we think"! In other words, if we believe that something happened to us that caused our present difficulties, than that is TRUE for US. The magic appears, when you find out that the difficulty will resolve, even if that's not what really happened to us!

For many people, who have always believed that they have lived before, or for those that have come to accept this datum, Past Life Regression has been the key to finding the roots of certain problems that kept bothering them this lifetime. So, if it won't resolve, know that the cause must lie earlier, and when they run out of this life-time possibilities, still ask: "Is there an earlier similar incident?" You'll be surprised at what you 'll. find!

 


 

What Is Reincarnation?

Reincarnation is the theory that the 'soul" (man's awareness) survives death of the physical body and returns to be born again, with a renewed opportunity to grow towards perfection. Over consecutive life times, we learn the lessons that are necessary for our growth. Upon the demise of the physical body, we are given an opportunity to evaluate how we used the lifetime just ended, and what lessons, if any, we still have to learn.

In America, and other Western countries, reincarnation can be a very sensitive subject. Many, who do not fully understand the theory, assume that people who believe in it, are attracted to this idea because it gives them license to do whatever they want to in this life time, because "you'll always have another chance!"

However, after regressing hundreds of people to their past lives, I discovered that this is not the case. On the contrary, once people find out that their past actions have created many of their present day problems; once they see the "karmic" con-sequences, they are even more motivated to become the best they can be. Also, the idea that 'all is not lost' and that they will have another chance (instead of the fear of 'burning in hell forever') is very comforting to those that have a great fear of death. Last but not least, the past life idea explains why sometimes "bad things do happen to good people."

The purpose of regression would be to free yourself from the limiting beliefs you have created in the past, and accept full responsibility for your past actions. Once you have done this, there would be no need to experience the same 'hard won' lessons again, and if you work towards cleaning up all of your past (be it this, or any other life) you will be able to end the vicious cycle of death and rebirth forever. Failing that, you could at least make sure to increase your chances of having a better life, next time around.

Reincarnation is one of the oldest beliefs, accepted by about one third of the world's population. It is only in the West - due to religious vested interests - that it has been delegated to the 'forbidden subjects." Even in the Roman Catholic Church it was a fundamental belief until in 553 AD, when the Synod of Constantinopal condemned the teachings as heresy, and decreed that all references to past lives be removed from the bible.

However, as they say: "Seeing is believing." The beauty about Clearing, however, is that one doesn't even have to belief in past lives, to be able to experience them! All one needs is an open mind and a willingness to explore the possibility. And, if that is too much to ask, we could always run "imaginary incidents."

When L. Ron Hubbard wrote his treatise on Dianetics, in 1950, no mention was made of past lives. I believe that he deliberately omitted this because it was deemed too controversial.

Later, in one of his many technical bulletins, however, he claims that "People who don't run past lives in Dianetics don't recover." Yet, in the very same year as "Dianetics, The Modern Science was published, he wrote an-other book entitled: "Have you lived before this life?" in which he spoke exclusively about the subject, also providing us (in Chapter 2), with samples of verbatim past life regression sessions.

To sum up, my intention is not to persuade any one that reincarnation does exist. I strongly believe in one of the principles that first attracted me to Scientology, i.e.: "What is true for you is what you have observed for yourself." My purpose is simply to let you know that - 'when a chain of incidents appears to bog down (with no indication that you have reached the basic on the chain (earliest incident of a particular issue) you must allow for the possibility of a Past Life incident.

If the idea of Past Lives is real to your pre-Clear, go right ahead and ask for an earlier time when... If not, you could ask for an imaginary incident, with the understanding that you are running an 'imaginary incident'! Remember, in Clearing we never evaluate for the pre-Clear, which means we don't ever suggest what they should or shouldn't believe, or think about their case.

In Book II, I shall give you an example of a real - I beg your pardon! - an ëimaginaryí Past Life incident of my own!

 


 

How to Be in the "Now"

The following process is not part of the regular "auditing" techniques, as outlined in the original book: "Dianetics, The Modern Science of Mental Health"; (and neither are the Healing Remedies in Chapter III). Yet, I found it crucial to include these wonderful processes, because they can be ad-ministered at any time, to anyone!

The process I call: "The Re-orientation Drill" is designed to get a person back in the Now, when their attention is scattered due to: "being drunk - being up-set, or just being disoriented." I have run it successfully on many people to sober them up, to stop them from feeling dizzy or nauseous on a plane, or boat trip, or to calm them down when extremely distraught.

Application:

You approach the person and ask if it is O.K. with them if you did some simple process (thing) to help them...(sober up, calm down or handle someone who is seasick).

If they indicate that they assent, point to the nearest (big) object and say: "Touch that ..." When they comply with your request, say "Thank you, Good, OK, (or anything that will serve as an acknowledgment).

Now point to another object (wall, etc.) and repeat the process, until they come back into present time, and have brightened up, or tell you that they're OK now. That's really all there is to it, but I can almost guarantee, you'll be amazed at the results!

What about the Future?

The search for the self and for meaningful relations, is, perhaps, the most sought after quest that anyone who wants to enrich their life will be interested in. Until such time as we have discovered the True Self, our own unique identity that sets us apart from others and have ironed out some of the undesirable traits in our character, it would be difficult, if not impossible to be happy or fulfilled. Only, after we have gotten the feeling of being comfort-able with ourselves, have learned to "love ourselves," can we really have re-warding and meaningful relationships with others.

To achieve that goal we have to discover what it is we are doing to, at times, sabotage our lives. To do so, we would have to be willing to admit that there are certain things that would need to be corrected. Then, and only then, will we be able to make progress on our individual goals.

This manual will reveal the secret of the reactive mind, the source of all potential trouble. Working with the Clearing Techniques will put you on a journey, that will guarantee you the self-fulfillment you have been searching for. If you would persist until you reach the Clear State, your future will be secured; you will feel like a different person, yet much more like the real ëYouí, the ëYouí that you would surely want to be! In addition, Clearing will improve all areas of your life!

Thoughtful Eyes

Eyes are for seeing beauty untold:
Be yourself, and watch the wonders unfold.

Don't look through eyes of fear and depression;
This only leads to grief and aggression.

Eyes that are bright show there's nothing to hide;
Don't be confused by bad feelings inside!

Bad feelings are just an expression of fear;
Be in the present, each day of the year.

Blind to love and a life that is kind.

Love is a feeling of true beauty within;

Lilly is the operator, at the switchboard of my brain
And when she starts reacting, my life becomes insane.
She's supposed to be employed by me, and play a passive role.
But - anytime I'm insecure - Lilly takes control.

Tell everyone around me Just to clear out of my way.
The things I say won't make much sense; all "common sense" is lost,
'Cause when Lilly's at the switchboard, my wires all get crossed.

Lilly is my own creation. Thought I needed her with me,
To organize and then recall all my life's history.
But she started taking liberties with all my information
And whenever she starts plugging in, I get a bad sensation.

Tell the world to hurry by and stay out of my way.
I'm feeling very scattered, Iím lost in my emotion.

Prevention Is Better Than the Cure

Before the advent of Dianetic therapy, the above dictum was certainly true and it is still true today, where children are concerned. In order to run out their bad experiences, the brain has to be fully developed. This does not generally happen until the child is eight years old. Even then it is difficult, because of their short attention span. I, personally, prefer to wait until they are in their early teens, before starting them on the Clearing program. It goes without saying that I would use one of the Healing Remedies in an emergency, i.e., when they have had an operation or injury. When they are upset, I would calm them down by just bringing their attention back to the present. (See Book II for the appropriate processes.)

In all other cases, except for those where there has been actual brain damage, there is now no excuse not to clear out those aberrative incidents before they can do further damage to these individuals and those in their environment. And, once you have found and eradicated all underlying engrams, they should be cured and prevention is no longer necessary!

In his Chapter (on "Preventive Dianetics" - Book 11, Chapter. 10), Mr. Hubbard elaborates on the uses of Dianetics. For the purpose of this book, I only want to touch upon some of the most important ones. "The first thing to know is that if both parents would receive Clearing 'before' conceiving a child, they will not have any engrams to dramatize, while the child is in the womb! Of course, this would be all the more vital for the mother, herself. In the above Chapter Hubbard elaborates:

"A woman who is already pregnant should be treated with the utmost respect. If she should fall and hurt herself, she should be helped, but silently! She should not be expected to do any strenuous work or carry heavy objects, and she should not have intercourse forced on her. And, in view of the fact that it is not always possible to tell, when a woman has gotten pregnant, it is clear that society should alter their treatment of women in general."

The second, important datum is to keep silent (or at least avoid any negative comments such as "She's in terrible shape; she may very well die!" Or: "It looks hopeless," etc., around an injured person.

Everything that is said around someone who is to a greater or lesser extent 'unconscious', is recorded, and will act as a 'hypnotic command' when that engram gets triggered. The same applies for all medical personnel, such as ambulance drivers, doctors and nurses.

In order to prevent engrams from getting triggered, there are again two things, which can be done:

Giving the child a calm, harmonious environment that is non-restimulative, or:
Removing the child from a highly aberrative environment of violence an or child abuse.

In his closing statements of the Chapter that deals with 'Preventive Dianetics" (p. 160), L. Ron Hubbard states that:

"The healthiest children come from the happiest mothers. Birth for one thing, in a cleared mother, is a very mild affair. Only birth engrams in the mother make it hard. A cleared mother needs no anesthetic. And that is well because the anesthetic makes a dazed child and the en-gram, when it reacts, makes a dull child. A happy mother has very little trouble. And even a few engrams, which arrive de-spite all precautions, are nothing if the general tone the mother is happy."

I am sure that we can all agree with that statement!

The golden rule to remember is:

Around an injured, sick or unconscious person is: Silence is Golden!

So, try to talk as little as possible, and if you do watch out for those limiting beliefs. The injured or sick person will not even be aware that the subconscious is like a pig that gobbles up everything that's put in front of it, without inspecting or analyzing the contents of its intake.
