Ayya Khema in "When the Iron Eagle Flies", said:

"It is often thought that the Buddha's doctrine teaches us that suffering will disappear if one has meditated long enough, or if one sees everything differently. It is not that at all. Suffering isn't going to go away; the one who suffers is going to go away."

About CSSA

In order to clearly define the purpose of this web site, listed below is a brief definition of each of the terms of the center-awareness.info name, "Center for the Study of Spiritual Awareness".

Center[the nucleus around which things are gathered or to which they tend]
There is only ONE nucleus to which we give our attention - Ourselves.
for[In the most general sense, indicating that in consideration of, in view of, or with reference to, which anything is done or takes place.]
the[employed to individualize a particular kind]
Study[to consider attentively; to examine closely]
[attentively: observant; regarding with care or attention.]
[examine: to inquire or search into; to explore]
[observe: To be on the watch respecting; to pay attention to; to notice with care; to see; to perceive; to discover;]
of[denoting that from which anything proceeds; indicating origin, source, descent, and the like]
Spiritual[consisting of spirit; not material]
Awareness[quality or state of being watchful or vigilant]

To put these all together and summarize, in a circuitous manner: From the center, we go 'out' and observe our spiritual nature so as to 'return' to it. How silly!

And yet it is a very serious undertaking.

You will notice that the web site uses a .info extension and the reason for this is to clearly demonstrate that there is no organization, no commercial activity, no group, path, ideology, authority figure - anything that is used as a basis for going anywhere or doing anything. There is only one purpose here and the Center for the Study of Spiritual Awareness name says it all.

Truth, being established in itself, need not be or become known. It is self-evident, ever present and never changes, even while changing. What better way to entertain oneself than to see if it can be spotted? :-)
